What’s La Dolce Villa About?
Businessman Eric Field (Scott Foley) travels to Italy to stop daughter Olivia (Maia Reficco) from buying a crumbling one-euro villa. Instead, he rediscovers cooking, rebuilds their relationship, and falls for mayor Francesca (Violante Placido). The title honors Fellini’s 1960 classic La Dolce Vita, celebrating Italian beauty and life’s unexpected turns.
Why La Dolce Villa Works
Authentic Chemistry
Foley and Placido deliver genuine romantic sparks as two widows rediscovering love. The father-daughter dynamic adds unexpected emotional depth beyond typical rom-coms.
Italy Steals the Show
Shot in Rome, Lazio, and Tuscany, the cinematography is breathtaking. Interiors were built at legendary Cinecittà Studios where Fellini filmed the original La Dolce Vita.
More Than Romance
The film explores grief, family reconciliation, and community revival. The 1-euro villa program is real—Italian towns actually sell abandoned properties to attract residents and boost economies.
The Verdict
La Dolce Villa avoids typical Netflix rom-com traps by keeping characters front and center. Quirky locals and a goat named Maltese add charm without overwhelming the story. The film ranked fourth on Netflix US during opening week, proving audiences crave smart, heartwarming content. Perfect for fans of Under the Tuscan Sun and European romances!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is La Dolce Villa based on a true story?
A: No, but the 1-euro villa program is real! Small Italian towns like Sambuca sell abandoned properties for €1 to revitalize communities. The story about a widower finding love abroad is fictional.
