Netizens Criticize Rachel Zegler’s Casting

Rachel Zegler, who stars as Snow White in the remake, has faced criticism long before the trailer was released. The actress made headlines last year for her comments about the film’s updated approach. She mentioned that the new Snow White would not be saved by a prince or dream about true love. Instead, she would aspire to become a leader, embodying qualities her late father encouraged her to embrace. These remarks were intended to convey a modern take on the character but were met with backlash from some Disney fans.

The release of the teaser trailer has only intensified the criticism. Some viewers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Zegler’s portrayal, comparing her appearance unfavourably to that of Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. Critics argue that the character of Snow White, traditionally depicted as more beautiful than her adversary, is now overshadowed by the villain. This shift has led to claims of “woke” casting and accusations that the film’s updated approach undermines the original charm of the 1937 classic.

One user on X, formerly Twitter, remarked, “This looks like hot garbage,” while another questioned, “Are you really expecting us to believe that Snow White is more beautiful than the villain?” The trailer’s attempt to present a fresh take on the classic story has not been well received by all, with some fans feeling that Zegler’s comments about the original film have tainted their perception of the remake.

Peter Dinklage Faces Backlash for Criticizing the Dwarves

Peter Dinklage, known for his powerful role in ‘Game of Thrones, has also found himself at the centre of controversy regarding the remake. Dinklage criticized Disney for its decision to include the seven dwarves in the live-action film. He expressed his frustration with the depiction of the dwarves as outdated and insensitive, questioning how the film could be progressive while still using such a “backward” story element.

In an interview with Marc Maron, Dinklage said, “They were so proud of casting a Latina actress as Snow White, but they’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. What the f*ck are you doing, man?” His comments highlighted a broader issue about representation and inclusivity in media, particularly concerning the portrayal of characters with disabilities.

Dinklage’s comments prompted Disney to make significant changes to the film’s portrayal of the dwarves. In response to the criticism, the studio decided to use CGI to represent the dwarves rather than casting actors for these roles. This decision has led to a mixed reception from fans. Some argue that the use of CGI undermines the film’s potential to showcase new talent and create authentic connections with the characters.

One fan expressed disappointment, saying, “This movie could have started so many careers for up-and-coming dwarf actors. But no, Peter Dinklage just had to ruin it for his community.” The debate over the film’s handling of the dwarves reflects ongoing discussions about representation and the balance between modern sensibilities and classic storytelling.

Annoucement Shared by Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot, who plays the antagonist, shared her excitement on social media, writing, “Still pinching myself that I got to be part of this iconic story! See you in March 2025!” Rachel Zegler also expressed her pride in her role, stating, “So unbelievably honored, so unbelievably proud. See you in theaters March 2025.”
