Did David Harbour Just Leak Doctor Doom’s Biggest Secret?

Sometimes the biggest spoiler isn’t a leaked script — it’s an actor forgetting to stay in character. Asked by Variety to deliver a line from Avengers: Doomsday completely out of context, David Harbour — reprising Red Guardian from Black Widow and Thunderbolts* — paused, slipped into Alexei Shostakov’s thick Russian accent, pointed, and said: “You… are Tony Stark.”

Why That Line Is a Big Deal

Robert Downey Jr. is indeed returning to the MCU in Doomsday — but not as Tony Stark. He’s playing Victor von Doom, Marvel’s most iconic villain. So why would Red Guardian call someone “Tony Stark” if Stark’s been dead since Endgame?

Doctor Doom: The Leading Theories

Fans have converged on a few explanations:

• The unmasking scene — Doom removes his mask, and a stunned Red Guardian mistakes him for his old ally.
• A multiversal double — Doom could hail from Earth-828, the parallel universe introduced in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which hasn’t yet acknowledged its own Stark.
• Deliberate misdirection — Doom disguises himself as Stark to manipulate the Avengers.
• Harbour was simply trolling — Marvel actors are notorious for feeding fans false leads.

Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, and given the studio’s track record of elaborate misdirection, this could be nothing more than a well-timed joke.
