Diablo Immortal x Spawn: How Todd McFarlane Is Bringing Two Hells Together at BlizzCon

Some crossovers feel forced. This one doesn’t. Diablo Immortal is teaming up with comic legend Todd McFarlane for a collaboration with his iconic anti-hero Spawn, and the pairing makes sense the moment you think about it — two universes built almost entirely out of demons, hellfire, and things that go bump in the underworld.

What’s Actually Happening at BlizzCon

Todd McFarlane is joining the Diablo Immortal development team on stage for a dedicated panel, and it’s built around more than just a Q&A. The centerpiece is a live drawing session, where McFarlane will create original artwork reimagining familiar Diablo characters filtered entirely through Spawn’s signature dark, gothic art style. That’s followed by a discussion where McFarlane will dig into how the collaboration came together, alongside insights from a career that’s spanned decades at the top of the comics industry. Attendees also get an exclusive artwork signing session to close things out — a nice touch for fans hoping to walk away with something physical from the event.

Why This Crossover Actually Fits

Diablo has spent three decades built around demons, angels, and the eternal war for Sanctuary. Spawn, meanwhile, is one of comics’ most recognizable anti-heroes — a hellspawn soldier wrapped in one of the darkest, most visually distinct designs in the medium. Putting the two together isn’t just a marketing pairing; thematically, Spawn’s aesthetic slots into Sanctuary’s world almost naturally, which is likely why the announcement has generated more genuine excitement than the average game crossover.

What Else Is Coming With the Collaboration

Alongside the BlizzCon panel news, Blizzard released a Developer Insights video that includes a personal message from Todd McFarlane himself, plus a first look at Diablo Immortal’s upcoming Patch 5.1. Full details on the cosmetics, events, and gameplay content tied to the Spawn collaboration are expected to be revealed closer to the in-game launch, but early previews suggest players can expect Hellspawn-themed gear and visual effects as part of the crossover.

The collaboration itself goes live in Diablo Immortal on September 30, 2026 (AEST) — so mark the calendar if you’re planning to explore Sanctuary in its new, McFarlane-inspired skin.
