As the Diablo 4 open beta period approaches, Blizzard Senior Vice President Rod Fergusson addresses rumours circulating online that Blizzard’s action RPG will be available on Xbox Game Pass. Blizzard’s latest entry in the long-running franchise is finally nearing completion after numerous delays and lengthy periods of waiting for any Diablo 4 information.
With the game’s release date still set for June, fans will finally be able to play it thanks to an open beta period later in March. Meanwhile, Microsoft continues its pursuit of Activision Blizzard, and while a resolution appears to be a long way off, it hasn’t stopped Microsoft from planning its future with big franchises like Call of Duty and the aforementioned Diablo.
Last year, Microsoft teased major Activision Blizzard games being added to Game Pass, leading many to believe that the yet-to-be-released Diablo 4 could follow a similar trend in which Microsoft first-party games are added at launch if the deal is completed ahead of time.
In an attempt to clear the air, Rod Fergusson took to Twitter to address the speculation and rumours surrounding Diablo 4.
While he admitted that seeing all of the Diablo 4 Open Beta excitement was great, he also confirmed that there have recently been a lot of questions about the game and Xbox Game Pass. As of now, Blizzard has no plans to add Diablo 4 to Game Pass, so fans will need to purchase a copy to play.
Naturally, things could change if Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through in the coming months. Still, Fergusson’s confirmation puts the rumours to rest for the time being. While online, Fergusson also took the time to answer some additional questions about the beta, confirming cross-platform play and discussing the recently announced KFC crossover promotion with Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
