When one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases in years finally hits screens, you expect fireworks — not cancellations. But on premiere night, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge ran into a roadblock that left thousands of fans across South India fuming. Here’s everything you need to know about what went wrong, what the team said, and what it means for the film’s massive opening.

Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge- What Exactly Happened?

Director Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios issued a public statement apologizing for the delay in premiere shows, while also sharing revised timings for the dubbed versions. NewsX

Language	Premiere Status	Timings
Hindi	✅ On Schedule	From 5 PM onwards
Tamil	⏳ Delayed	From 9 PM onwards
Telugu	⏳ Delayed	From 9 PM onwards
Malayalam	❌ Cancelled	Next morning (regular shows)
Kannada	❌ Cancelled	Next morning (regular shows)

Fans who held tickets for Malayalam or Kannada dubbed versions were given the option of a full refund or watching the Hindi version with subtitles instead. A fair resolution — but understandably frustrating for fans who had planned premiere night experiences weeks in advance.

What Did Aditya Dhar Say?

The director’s response was heartfelt and transparent. Aditya Dhar’s statement read that Dhurandhar is not just a film for the team, but something they have lived with, nurtured, and dreamed of sharing with every viewer — together, at the same moment, in every language. That kind of sincerity goes a long way, even when things go sideways.

The cause? Unforeseen technical difficulties were cited as the reason behind the Malayalam and Kannada cancellations. NewsX No further elaboration was given, though the issues are widely believed to be related to last-minute censor certification delays for the dubbed prints.

Why This Matters — Box Office Stakes Are Enormous

This isn’t just a logistics hiccup. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios — two of India’s biggest production houses — and the box office expectations are staggering. The film’s premiere shows alone were targeting a record-breaking ₹40 crore, which would be a milestone for Indian cinema, with total Day 1 collections — including premieres — expected to cross ₹100 crore nett.

Any disruption to South Indian premiere shows, where dubbed releases drive massive numbers, was always going to sting. The fact that Hindi shows ran smoothly kept the damage limited — but the goodwill from Tamil and Telugu fans still needed managing carefully.
