Delhi HC lawsuit against 5G rollout by Indian Celebrity is dismissed and fined Rs.20 Lakh

The Delhi HC has dismissed the lawsuit filed by renowned Indian celebrity Juhi Chawla which demanded that the government not permit the rollout of 5G technology in India.

Mrs. Chawla in her lawsuit had claimed that the rollout of 5G connectivity in India would result in immense damage to the environment and would leave all humans, animals, birds, and insects susceptible to radiation exposure for 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. The lawsuit claimed that this would be equivalent to nearly 10x to 100x times greater than what exists today.

The Delhi HC however, dismissed the plea and claimed that the allegations had no solid merit while labeling it as a publicity stunt. In addition to this, the Delhi HC also imposed a fine of INR 20L ($27,000) for the abuse of their court process.

The proceedings of the case were conducted online due to the current situation in India. Despite this, the proceedings witnessed several interruptions. The plaintiff had circulated the link of the virtual hearings on her social media handles. The hearings witnessed multiple fans joining the link and causing delays by playing the songs used in her movies. This left the judge infuriated and he ordered the Delhi Police to take action against them by issuing a contempt notice.

The introduction of 5G has received a fair amount of backlash across the world. Previously a group of protesters set fire to a 5G tower in the UK. False information and lack of education are deemed to be the major factors for this.
