Death Stranding 2 Trailer revealed at The Game Awards 2022

Death Stranding 2 is revealed by Kojima Productions in an incredible trailer that provides a cinematic look at what players can expect from the upcoming title. This announcement comes during The Game Awards, where the previous game in the Death Stranding series previously won Best Direction.

The trailer was shortly followed by a few remarks from developer Hideo Kojima, who, in typical fashion, didn’t reveal anything about Death Stranding 2. The story, however, appears to be less predictive of the secluded community that finally extended from the gaming world of the original Death Stranding and into the actual world a few months later.

Fans are shown a small scene of Lea Seydoux’s Fragile cuddling a toddler in the teaser before the tranquil moment bursts into an action-packed chase over the desolate wasteland. Fragile is joined by Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter Bridges after some odd visuals, such as hideous tentacles crawling around within BB’s old carrying case. Interestingly, Sam has long, grey hair in Death Stranding 2, and Fragile is no longer damaged by her time out in the time fall.

Following the debut trailer, Hideo Kojima made a brief appearance to discuss the creation of Death Stranding 2, specifically the writing process of the new tale.

According to Kojima, the tale had already started when the original Death Stranding was released, but the developer discarded and reworked it after the isolation from the COVID pandemic that followed the release of that game. Aside from that tidbit of information, Kojima recommended fans take a closer look at the recently released teaser to begin putting together what the next game in the series has in store.

Given the backstory of the original Death Stranding, as well as the hazy and clouded lead-up to its release, what little has been seen thus far seems unlikely to be all there is to see. Similarly, the introduction of Death Stranding 2 does not necessarily put an end to fan speculation about Kojima Productions’ suspected Project Overdose, as Kojima has stated that the developer is currently working on many projects. So far, this teaser has given fans much to think about, from the return of Troy Baker’s Higgs to the unveiling of new technology not seen in the original title.

Death Stranding 2 is in development for PlayStation 5.
