DC Box Office: Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Directorial Debut Crosses Rs 61 Crore, Holds Strong Against Tough Competition

A director stepping in front of the camera for the first time is always a gamble. Ten days in, that gamble is paying off handsomely.

DC, starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi, has crossed the Rs 61 crore mark at the Indian box office, closing its second weekend with a solid Rs 14 crore addition despite fresh competition at the theatres.

DC: A Steady, Confident Hold

The film added Rs 5 crore on its second Sunday alone, capping a second weekend total of Rs 14 crore. Combined with its first-week haul of Rs 47 crore, DC’s overall gross now stands at Rs 61 crore — a healthy number for a director-turned-actor’s debut vehicle.

Directed by Arun Matheswaran, DC ran into fresh competition from Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons in its second weekend, which understandably slowed the pace. But the film is still holding its ground, and trade estimates suggest it isn’t done yet.

Where DC Is Winning Big

Tamil Nadu leads the charge with Rs 18.75 crore, followed closely by the Telugu states at Rs 16.50 crore. Kerala has been a standout market too, contributing Rs 15.75 crore — making DC one of the biggest Tamil hits the state has seen recently. Karnataka added Rs 7.25 crore, rounding out a genuinely pan-regional performance for a debut film.

What’s Next For DC

Trade trackers now expect the film to finish its run somewhere between Rs 75-80 crore — a strong outcome for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first outing as a leading man, especially given the crowded release calendar around it.

Tamil cinema continues to expand its footprint well beyond its home market, with directors-turned-performers increasingly finding commercial success across South Indian states — a trend that reflects the industry’s evolving, pan-regional appeal, similar to broader shifts seen across the Indian film industry’s growing collaboration between regional cinemas as detailed on Wikipedia’s overview of Indian cinema.
