Arsenal have decided to turn David Raya’s loan move from Brentford into a permanent one. The Spaniard signed for the North London side this summer on an initial loan move with the option to make it permanent. And on the back of his performances thus far, the club is ready to invest in him for the long run.
The Gunners will pay a fee worth £27 million to their fellow London club for the goalkeeper in the summer. Raya has agreed to a pre-contract starting from June 2024, and will officially sign it once the two clubs have completed the formalities between them.
David Raya to sign for Arsenal permanently in June 2024
Brentford are accepting the structure of the deal since Arsenal need to comply with FFP regulations. And making the move permanent in the summer will allow them to avoid any unnecessary breaches of FFP rules.
The Spaniard has been trusted over Aaron Ramsdale on several occasions, but has been shaky as well. He will be unavailable for the team’s upcoming fixture against Brentford due to loan restrictions, and Mikel Arteta will be forced to start Ramsdale over their new signing.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal’s number 1 will be able to reclaim his spot in the starting line-up, or whether David Raya has convinced Arteta enough to warrant a regular starting spot.
