Daayra Box Office: Kareena Kapoor’s Investigative Drama Fails to Ignite

Investigative dramas need momentum to work, and unfortunately for Daayra, that momentum simply never arrived. The Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer closed out its opening weekend with numbers that confirm what the muted buzz already suggested.

Daayra : The Numbers Tell a Quiet Story

Daayra collected just Rs. 4.10 crore across its three-day opening weekend, with the film starting soft at Rs. 1 crore on Day 1 and only inching upward from there.

The trend line here isn’t just weak — it’s flat. A slow Day 1 followed by only mediocre growth on Saturday and Sunday leaves the film with essentially no runway heading into weekdays, when numbers almost always drop further from the weekend baseline.

Why the Film Struggled to Connect?

The genre has limited mainstream scope to begin with, and the promotional campaign didn’t do much to widen that appeal or build urgency around the release. Investigative and institutional dramas tend to rely heavily on strong critical buzz and word-of-mouth to overcome a niche premise, and neither seems to have kicked in here strongly enough to offset the quiet opening. With this trajectory, the film is heading toward a disappointing overall finish at the box office.

What’s Daayra Actually About?

The story follows a tense clash of ethics within the system after a high-profile incident, centering on officer Raman Kumar and his team taking action against suspects in a disputed encounter. Another officer, Ajooni Kohli, then investigates whether the controversial shooting was staged, pulling the narrative into a deep institutional conflict between duty and justice.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, alongside Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, and Biswapati Sarkar in supporting roles. What Happens Next?

With such a soft foundation, Daayra will need an unusually strong midweek hold to avoid an early box office exit. Given the genre’s limited draw and the lack of promotional momentum, that kind of turnaround looks unlikely based on current trends.
