The Poster Drama: When Netflix “Forgot” Urvashi Rautela

When Netflix initially announced the Daaku Maharaaj OTT release, something was missing—literally. The promotional poster featured Nandamuri Balakrishna, Bobby Deol, Pragya Jaiswal, and Shraddha Srinath, but completely omitted Urvashi Rautela, who plays Sub-inspector Janaki. The internet exploded with witty reactions, coining her as “India’s first woman to be removed from the poster of a 105+ crore film.”

After massive backlash and trending memes, Netflix course-corrected by releasing updated promotional content featuring Urvashi—not once, but twice in the carousel. Social media users joked about her achieving yet another “first,” becoming the first actress to appear twice in promotional materials for the same film’s OTT release.

What Makes Daaku Maharaaj Worth Watching?

Directed by Bobby Kolli, this period action thriller follows Sitaram, a civil engineer who transforms into the legendary dacoit Daaku Maharaaj to protect a village from an evil prince. Later disguised as driver Nanaji, he safeguards a young girl and her family from dangerous criminals.

The film marks Bobby Deol’s Telugu debut as the menacing antagonist Balwanth Singh Thakur, earning praise for his powerful performance. The ensemble cast includes Sachin Khedekar, Ravi Kishan, Chandini Chowdary, and music composer S Thaman’s electrifying background score.

Urvashi Rautela’s viral dance number “Dabidi Dibidi” with Balakrishna generated 30 million views on the Telugu lyrical video alone, though it sparked controversy over the age gap between the performers. Despite mixed critical reviews, the film became the fourth highest-grossing Telugu film of 2025, proving its mass appeal.
