Cryptocurrency miners discovered a way to get more mining performance from the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti LHR graphics cards by applying a patch. The community discovered that updating the BIOS firmware can improve performance. EVGA, on the other hand, recently released a firmware update for the GPU that has been shown to improve crypto mining performance.
The crypto mining community discovered a solution to gain more performance from the NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti LHR silicon graphics cards by flashing the BIOS or, for those with EVGA cards, downloading the recent firmware upgrade, according to OwnSnap, a small news site that covers current news in the tech, gaming, finance, business, and entertainment genres.
@bravo char, a Reddit member, was the first to notice how to boost the performance of the RTX 3080 Ti LHR graphics cards. According to the user, the vast majority of RTX 3080 Ti LHR GPUs on the market include a hidden function in the default BIOS that accesses the card’s power limit and triggers when the GPU experiences increasing memory demands. This is a feature that crypto miners encounter during their workloads.
When EVGA realized there was a problem with their graphics card, they produced a firmware update. The new software package, which can be accessed through the EVGA Precision X1 software package, improves crypto mining performance with their cards. After updating the firmware on their XC3, @bravo char noted a jump from 66MH/s to an incredible 80MH/s—a 21 percent boost.
Only the RTX 3080 Ti LHR model is eligible for the new firmware update. A firmware update will not be available for other EVGA RTX 3080 Ti cards, such as the Founders Edition model. According to the Reddit user, you can get the same result by downloading the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti XC3 BIOS with the most recent firmware upgrade and flashing the BIOS of a non-EVGA RTX 3080 Ti brand. It should be noted that this is only a temporary solution; as of this writing, there is no official fix. It’s also worth noting that flashing a different graphics card model with a different card’s BIOS can be extremely dangerous if done incorrectly, as @bravo char points out.
YouTuber Red Panda Mining used the EVGA XC3 BIOS to access the increased performance of their Inno3D 3080 Ti iChill X3 and discovered that they were able to achieve 91MH/s from their card, which is even higher than what was achieved with the specific EVGA graphics card for which the firmware upgrade was made.
