Anime Meets Cricket

This partnership marks Crunchyroll’s strategic expansion into global sports, uniting two entertainment powerhouses that share passionate fanbases. Both anime and cricket ignite emotions through drama, storytelling, and unforgettable moments—creating a natural synergy that transcends geography and connects fans across India, South Africa, and beyond.

Crunchyroll’s branding will prominently feature on the Proteas Men’s team jerseys across all three formats, providing maximum visibility during high-stakes matches broadcast to millions worldwide.

Strategic Vision

“CSA takes pride in welcoming Crunchyroll as the official team sponsor for the upcoming India Series,” said Pholetsi Moseki, CSA Chief Executive Officer. “With anime becoming one of the world’s most dominant entertainment forces, soon to have over a billion viewers, we see this partnership as a celebration of shared values and a drive to connect with global audiences.”

The timing is strategic. India and South Africa represent two rapidly growing anime markets with increasingly engaged fanbases. India’s anime viewership has surged dramatically, with platforms like Crunchyroll experiencing exponential growth as younger audiences embrace Japanese animation culture.

Shared Fandom, Shared Passion

“Cricket and anime both capture the intensity of competition and the joy of shared fandom,” said Kartik Gandhi, Senior Vice President, Growth & Planning at Crunchyroll. “This partnership strengthens our ongoing focus on bringing together the worlds of sports and anime—combining the spirit of anime with cricket across two dynamic markets.”

The collaboration taps into overlapping demographics: young, digitally-native audiences who consume content across multiple platforms and appreciate narratives built on determination, teamwork, and triumph. Both cricket and anime thrive on long-form storytelling with emotional arcs that keep fans invested over extended periods.

Expanding Sports Presence

This partnership represents another milestone in Crunchyroll’s growing sports association strategy, positioning anime as a mainstream entertainment force alongside traditional sports sponsorships. With the largest dedicated anime library and a premium streaming service, Crunchyroll continues expanding its cultural footprint beyond pure entertainment into lifestyle and sports.
