The next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft, namely the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, are powered by the 8-core Zen-2 SoCs from AMD. Recently we have seen a mysterious Van Gogh APU from AMD in software code.

The chip’s sudden appearance seems to have sparked the speculations that Microsoft is indeed planning to launch a portable console or handheld gaming device coming from Microsoft. Tech tipsters Komachi and _rogame have offered up the details about the ultra-low voltage APU, and according to them, it has a RAM width of 256bits DDR5.

According to sources, the APU has a 2.4 GHz base clock and 3.5 GHz boost rate for a 4-core, 8-thread Van Gogh part. The chip also includes a 7nm manufacturing process, Zen 2 and RDNA 2 microarchitectures, Navi 2 GPU, and a very low 9 W TDP; you are left looking at a convenient APU especially ideal for either an ultra-mobile laptop.

A 256-bit DDR5 memory interface support will easily allow the Ryzen 5000 APU to deal with load at a greater rate, which means quicker graphics processing. So, it would be great news for Microsoft if it wants to incorporate the chip in its handheld device or portable Xbox console.

Even if the supposed chip is actually in the making or no, it is still a concern for many. With Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU technology onboard and a maximum frequency of 3.5 GHz, it will be a blast to see a handheld device is powered by such a beast.

Also, sources claim that it has an ultra-low TDP of 9 W, and if the chip makes it to market, it will be at the heart of any future portable gaming console.
