CineNow, a media finance entity, is nearing the completion of its $150 million Secured Participation Fund, designated for investment across more than 30 Indian film productions, encompassing both Hindi and regional languages. The firm simultaneously announced its intention to introduce tokenization as a future capital layer, with a projected launch in Q4 2027.

The fund’s operational model focuses on acquiring or securing intellectual property (IP) rights across a diversified slate of films, rather than concentrating on individual projects. This approach aims to mitigate single-project risk by monetizing IP through various channels including theatrical releases, over-the-top (OTT) platforms, satellite rights, music, and other ancillary streams. The planned tokenization initiative seeks to bring this structured asset base onto a blockchain, thereby broadening access for a wider investor base.

CineNow Strategic Leadership and Industry Context

To lead its tokenization and capital markets strategy, CineNow has appointed Hamed Faqirzai as Director of Tokenization & Capital Markets. Faqirzai previously contributed to fundraising initiatives totaling over $100 million in the past year. He will serve as CineNow’s primary spokesperson on these strategic areas. Additionally, Nikita Sachdev, Founder & CEO of Luna PR, has joined CineNow as an Advisor.

CineNow’s strategy posits that India’s film ecosystem, traditionally financed by producers, studios, and specialist investors, is prepared for the integration of new capital models. The company emphasizes the importance of establishing robust institutional IP infrastructure prior to tokenizing the assets. This foundation is deemed crucial for entertainment IP to gain recognition as a credible alternative asset class, requiring adherence to specific legal, regulatory, and technological standards.

The move by CineNow aligns with a broader industry trend of Real World Asset (RWA) tokenization, which is expanding beyond traditional asset classes like real estate, funds, and securities into emerging sectors such as intellectual property and media.
