Some movies have a lead actor. This one has an army of them. Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic is finally hitting theaters, and the cast list reads less like a credits roll and more like a who’s-who of modern cinema.
The Odyssey: A Cast Built for the Big Screen
Shot across six countries and filmed entirely on IMAX cameras, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca fighting his way home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway plays his devoted wife Penelope, while Tom Holland takes on the role of their son Telemachus. Rounding out the mythological world are Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson as the scheming suitor Antinous, and Charlize Theron as the enchantress Calypso.
The supporting cast goes even deeper, with Lupita Nyong’o pulling double duty as both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, alongside major names like Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, and Samantha Morton filling out this sprawling ensemble.

Why This Cast Matters
What makes this ensemble stand out isn’t just star power — it’s the sheer range of Oscar pedigree involved. Matt Damon has an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and multiple acting nominations, while Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables. Pairing that kind of talent with Nolan’s famously ambitious, practical-effects-driven filmmaking style is exactly why anticipation for this release has been building for over a year.
The film is set for release in theaters on July 17, giving audiences their first chance to see this massive ensemble tackle one of literature’s most enduring stories.
