Chelsea have progressed to the finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Al Hilal 1-0 in the semi finals of the competition. Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal of the game in the first half of the match, after a mishap from the opposition defenders.
The UEFA Champions League winners will be facing Brazilian club Palmeiras in the final of the Club World Cup, and will be trying to lift the trophy for the first time in their history on Saturday.
Chelsea move to the finals of the Club World Cup
Although Al Hilal started off the game brightly, their opponents eventually grew into the game. Lukaku missed a couple of big chances early in the game, before eventually taking a golden opportunity around the half-hour mark.
Moussa Marega had a great chance to equalise in the game as well, but was denied by Kepa’s heroics in front of goal. Chelsea eventually had a number of chances at the opposing end, but were unable to test the goalkeeper a lot of times either.
Their best opportunity in the second half came through Hakim Ziyech, from a shot outside the box that forced a big save. However, they didn’t come close to another big chance either.
But the underdogs were not able to break through the Chelsea defense despite having a number of opportunities on the break either. After losing out to Corinthians in December 2012, Chelsea are now mighty close to winning the trophy a decade later.
