At the ongoing all-digital CES 2021, Asus has unveiled its new lineup of Republic of Gamers (ROG) devices including the Strix Scar 15 gaming laptop. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 was announced alongside its larger, more impressively-specced ROG Strix Scar 17. Both notebooks are quite similar but differ in a few aspects with the Strix Scar 15 available for purchase sometime in mid-Q1 2021.
The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 comes exclusively with AMD Ryzen 5000H series mobile processors, much like several other Asus-branded gaming laptops that have been revealed at CES 2021. The Ryzen 9 5900HX and Ryzen 7 5800H are the two high-end Cezanne CPUs one can choose between.
According to a report by the NoteBook Check, “The CPUs can be paired with Nvidia’s shiny new RTX 3000 mobile graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 3080 (16GB), GeForce RTX 3070 (8GB), and GeForce RTX 3060 (6GB).” Asus says that the airflow to the CPU and GPU has been improved due to its new cooling design and dedicated tunnels help keep dust buildup on the down-low.
The Laptop’s 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1080) 300Hz screen needs all that processing power is necessary to keep it running, while the display also happens to cover 100% of the sRGB spectrum. A QHD (2,560 x 1440) panel is also there. A refresh rate of 165Hz is available and it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Users of the laptop can add up to 64GB of RAM to the Strix Scar 15, along with 2TB of storage via an NVMe SSD. Running both SSDs in RAID 0 configuration for extra performance is also a possibility.
The connectivity options available to the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port that can output video and charge the laptop, three USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, a 3.5mm headphone/mic combo jack, and one HDMI 2.0b port. Its quad-speaker array is Dolby Atmos-certified and the laptop is priced at €1,499 (US$1,825).
