AMD already impressed us a year ago with their strong EPYC Rome first 7nm based server CPUs and it continues to be adopted by a number of clients who look to get a better price to performance ratio. They have now given a first time public demonstration of AMD EPYC Milan based Zen 3 CPUs at the CES 2021.

AMD EPYC processors are at the heart of many of the largest cloud service providers, enterprises and supercomputers. AMD demonstrated 3rd Gen AMD EPYC “Milan” processors running the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF), one of the most popular tools used for climate research and weather forecasting, completing a weather forecast simulation ~68 percent faster than the competition.

AMD claims that the EPYC Milan processor (32 cores) has 68% higher performance than the Intel Xeon 6258R (28 cores). Both of them were tested on a dual-socket motherboard.

The AMD EPYC Milan processors will be made available in Q1 2021.
