7 Iconic Songs by BTS’ RM or Kim Namjoon

1. Persona

Persona, a track from BTS’s Map of the Soul: Persona album, introduces RM’s introspective nature through potent lyrics and a dynamic rap performance. In this song, RM explores themes of identity and self-perception, grappling with the masks people wear in society. His commanding presence in Persona sets the tone for the album, reflecting his journey of self-discovery. The sharp contrast between vulnerability and confidence in the track offers a raw insight into RM’s mind.

2. Forever Rain

From his second mixtape mono., Forever Rain stands out as a melancholic reflection on solitude and contemplation. The slow, thoughtful pace of the song mirrors the gradual fall of rain, embodying the emotional weight RM feels.

The lyrics delve into feelings of isolation and the desire for a peaceful escape, with RM yearning for the rain to wash away his burdens. This deeply personal track paints a somber but relatable picture of emotional weariness, a testament to RM’s ability to connect with listeners on a profound level.

3. Tokyo

Tokyo, another gem from mono., brings forth a serene and tranquil mood. With its mellow beats and reflective lyrics, the track is a window into RM’s thoughts during his travels. The calm yet introspective tone captures a sense of longing and contemplation, allowing listeners to experience the quiet solitude RM often finds while navigating life. The song’s minimalist production and soothing melodies highlight his artistic restraint, letting the lyrics speak for themselves.

4. Seoul

Produced by the British electronic duo HONNE, Seoul is a love letter filled with mixed emotions. In this track, RM shares his conflicting feelings about the city of Seoul. He describes the beauty and vibrancy of the city, but also touches on the sense of detachment and suffocation that urban life can bring.

The laid-back rhythm of the song contrasts with the deeper emotions hidden in the lyrics, making Seoul an introspective reflection on RM’s relationship with his hometown.

5. Bicycle

A solo single that highlights RM’s personal love for cycling, Bicycle is an ode to the freedom and joy he finds in riding. Released as part of BTS’s Festa celebration, the song exudes calmness and serenity, much like the sensation of coasting down an empty road. RM’s lyrical depiction of the simple pleasure of cycling and escaping the noise of daily life resonates with anyone who seeks moments of tranquility. The song captures the essence of liberation, as RM equates the act of riding a bicycle with a sense of personal peace.

6. Wild Flower

Taken from his latest solo album Indigo, Wild Flower is an exploration of RM’s personal and professional growth. Featuring Korean singer Cho Youjeen, the song draws parallels between RM’s desire for a grounded, peaceful life and the chaotic whirlwind of fame.

The poignant lyrics reflect his internal conflict between seeking calmness and being thrust into the spotlight. The delicate balance between the calm verses and soaring chorus mirrors RM’s internal struggle, making Wild Flower a deeply emotional and powerful piece.

7. Change

Change, a collaborative track with American rapper Wale, is a socially conscious anthem that addresses global issues and the need for transformation. The song, filled with sharp lyrics and bold commentary, reflects RM’s concern for the state of the world. In a seamless fusion of Korean and English, RM and Wale voice their frustrations about social injustice, inequality, and the constant demand for progress.
