Cape On, Collections Down — Supergirl Struggles to Soar at the Indian Box Office

DC Studios’ new superhero saga has landed in India — but the numbers tell a story that no one in the DC universe wants to read right now.

Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock alongside Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, and Matthias Schoenaerts, made its theatrical debut in India with a modest opening — and Day 2 showed little sign of a turnaround.

Supergirl India Box Office Collections — Day-by-Day

What’s Going Wrong?

A flat Day 2 number — matching the opening day exactly — signals very little organic audience growth over the weekend, which is typically when superhero films find their biggest crowds.

The word-of-mouth is somewhat mixed among the audience, which is concerning for its box office run. Furthermore, the movie is facing significant competition in India from local releases, and that competition will only increase with a big release every week from here.

The numbers put this in perspective fast. Supergirl is looking to wrap up its entire theatrical run under Rs. 20 crore gross at the Indian box office, which is not a good total for the superhero film coming from DC Studios.

Hollywood Is Winning in India — Just Not This One

To be fair to Indian audiences, they’ve shown up for Hollywood this year. Several non-anticipated, non-IP movies have fared better than expectations in 2026 — including Project Hail Mary, The Mummy, Obsession, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 — all emerging as successful ventures.

So the appetite is clearly there. Supergirl’s problem isn’t the market — it’s the mixed response and fierce local competition squeezing its screen share fast.

For Milly Alcock, this is a high-profile debut in the DCU, and the global performance will matter far more than India alone. But every market counts, and this one hasn’t caught fire yet.
