Callum Hudson-Odoi expected to change nationality to Ghana in November

England boss Gareth Southgate is expecting to lose Callum Hudson-Odoi to Ghana if he chooses to switch his allegiance to the African nation. According to reports, the player is becoming impatient with the England FA and believes that he has a better chance at an international career with Ghana.

Hudson-Odoi became the youngest player to represent England in a competitive fixture, in a European Championship qualifier against Czech Republic. Since then, he has been sent down to the Under 21s, and recently rejected a call-up to the youth team when they were due to play Kosovo and Romania.

Since he has been sent down to the Under 21s, and talents like Mason Greenwood, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka have emerged, he does not fancy his chances of becoming a regular under Southgate. As a result, he can choose to switch his nationality to Ghana since he is eligible to represent them under FIFA’s rules.

He hasn’t represented England at any major competition finals, and will have to wait until November to confirm the decision. That would make his last appearance for the country three years ago, and as a result, he will be eligible to become a player for Ghana and represent them at the 2022 World Cup.

Hudson-Odoi has close ties to Ghana and travelled to Accra this summer when he met Ghana president Nana Akufo-Addo, sports minister Mustapha Ussif and Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku.
