Brazilian Grand Prix 2021: Lewis Hamilton completes comeback to win 101st F1 race

Lewis Hamilton won the Brazilian Grand Prix, fending off competition from title rival Max Verstappen, who finished second. The British racer completed a remarkable comeback to finish ahead of Verstappen by ten seconds.

The record world champion has now won his 101st F1 race. The third place was secured by Valtteri Bottas, finishing 13 seconds behind Hamilton. All the top three racers had three pit stops in the race, but Lewis Hamilton used his prowess and skill to his advantage and earned a well-deserved win.

The 36-year-old was also named the driver of the day for fighting back from P10 to finish first in the Brazilian Grand Prix. He has also been hit with a fine for loosening his seat belt during the final stage of the race. Here is the judgement released by the stewards:

“The driver of car 44, Lewis Hamilton, undid his seat belts on the in-lap at the end of the race.

“While the Stewards are sympathetic to the desire to celebrate, it is fundamentally unsafe to undo the seatbelts while the car is in motion. Slow speeds in these cars are very fast for an unrestrained occupant.

“Further, Formula 1 drivers set the example for junior categories. It is critical that junior category drivers learn the importance of using all the safety devices of the car at all times.”

Hamilton will have to pay €5,000 followed by a €20,000 fee suspended through 2022. He now trails by 14 points behind rival Max Verstappen in the title rankings, after earning five more than the Dutchman in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
