How Does the App Work?

The service runs through an advanced virtual reality system that allows users to step inside a completely designed romance universe. The entry begins with a special device along with a login ring that functions as the access key. Once the program starts and the ring is worn, the user is placed into a digital setting built like an interactive love story.

The virtual dating subscription in the show delivers 900 themed dates at the slip of a simple device, letting anyone dive into risk-free romance — hitting home for today’s burned-out people, where even dating feels like just another grind.

Once inside, Mi-rae isn’t just passively watching a story — she’s the main character living it, making choices, feeling sparks, and experiencing emotional growth that slowly bleeds into her real life. Altogether, the program offers 901 virtual boyfriends, including Gu Yeong-il — designed completely according to the user’s personal preferences after completing a survey about their interests, habits, and relationship ideals.

The Date Scenarios: From Heist Romance to Joseon Royals

Mi-rae goes on a series of perfect fantasy dates — falling for a secret agent, romancing a royal in the Joseon period, and having a meet-cute in midair. Paste Magazine Some stories place her in a wealthy romance while others recreate a university love story. One scenario unfolds during a tense airplane situation where a stranger protects her during a terrorist crisis.

Director Kim Jung-sik confirmed the anthology structure was intentional: he focused on “portraying the many charms Jisoo has in the most versatile way possible” by giving Mi-rae different occupations and subtle character variations in the virtual world, so her acting style feels distinct from her real-world persona.

All the Star Cameos — Every Virtual Boyfriend Explained

This is where the show truly becomes a love letter to K-drama fandom. Key cameos include Lee Soo-hyuk as wealthy general manager Choi Si-woo; Ong Seong-wu as NIS agent Bae Hyeon-woo; Lee Jae-wook as a senior architecture student; a doctor played by one cast member; and Jay Park as a K-pop soloist Mi-rae supports at a concert. A Single’s Inferno contestant also makes an appearance.

The full virtual boyfriend lineup also includes Seo Kang-jun, Lee Hyun-wook, Kim Young-dae, and Lee Sang-yi — each bringing a completely different flavour of romance. Fangirlish Each cameo is essentially a mini K-drama packed into one episode — which makes the anthology format endlessly rewatchable.
