Steve Smith, David Warner should be more than 100% ready for World Cup in England: Ricky Ponting

849231f93072a7221520958694d9acf3 Steve Smith, David Warner should be more than 100% ready for World Cup in England: Ricky Ponting

Steve Smith and David Warner are expected to make their return to the Australian squad at the 2019 World Cup.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that Steve Smith and David Warner should be ready for the “absolute worst” when the team travel to England for the World Cup. The pair are expected to make a return to the national squad in the mega event having missed the cut in the preceding series against Pakistan due their elbow surgeries.’

Smith and Warner have been serving one year bans that was imposed on them by Cricket Australia for their roles in the 2018 ball tampering scandal in Newlands, South Africa. They are both going to the UAE as part of their reintegration although they won’t be part of the squad that face Pakistan. “I don’t think it is much of a challenge internally around the players,” said Ponting, who will be assistant coach to Justin Langer at the World Cup.

Australian batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner will come back stronger than ever from their 12-month bans and the latter will be the best player at the World Cup this year, former leg spinner Shane Warne has said.

Their bans end on March 28 and both players will be reintegrated into the national team.

“I think what you are going to see is a pretty quiet David Warner and Steve Smith. They are just going to try and let their bat do the talking and toe the line,” Warne told The Telegraph in an interview.

Cricket Australia have given Steve Smith and David Warner the go ahead to play in IPL 2019 for their respective franchises Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.

The World Cup starts on May 30 with hosts England taking on South Africa in the first match. Australia’s first match will be on June 1 against Afghanistan.

East Bengal’s head coach Alejandro Menendez believes they deserved the title

The Spanish coach believes that the Red and Gold brigade should have won their first ever I-League title.

bengal gokulam.jpg.image .784.410 East Bengal’s head coach Alejandro Menendez believes they deserved the title

East Bengal failed to win the I-League once again this season as they fell a point short of champions Chennai City FC on the final day.

The wait for the I-League trophy for the Kolkata outfit continued as they are yet to win the competition. They were at the second place in four seasons( 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14) and at the third place in three seasons(2012-13, 2015-16, 2016-17), but never won a title.

chennai city fc east bengal fc i league East Bengal’s head coach Alejandro Menendez believes they deserved the title

“I think when you lose a title, it is not because you lost one game. I now want to keep all of the positives. There is not a special reason. We had one team that wanted one more point than us. The team who got more points won the title,” said Alejandro Menendez.

For the third time in as many years, the I-League title race will be decided on the final match day and the two teams in the fray for the title today are Chennai City FC and East Bengal.

East Bengal comes from behind to defeat Gokulam Kerala 2-1 in Kozhikode in their last match but it isn’t enough to secure a maiden I-League title. Chennai City has defeated Minerva Punjab by 3-1 in their final match and the title goes South this season.

Alejandro Menendez’s men have to beat Gokulam Kerala FC and hope that Chennai City drops points against Minerva Punjab, then only they would be able to win the title.

If the points of East Bengal and Chennai City were same then also Chennai City would have won because of the number of goals they have scored and they have received.

Zinedine Zidane is set to return as the Real Madrid head coach

The Frenchman is reported to be re-appointed as the head coach of Real Madrid, according to widespread reports in Spain.

Zinedine Zidane had created history as the Real Madrid coach. He has won three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, which no coach has ever done before. He was also a fan favourite during his time at Real Madrid, both as a coach and a player. Zidane will return to the club just 10 months after leaving Los Blancos.

According to sources, the Real Madrid board of directors will meet today at around 1700 GMT and sack Santiago Solari after a series of disappointing results which has left them with a season nothing to play for. They will re-appoint Zinedine Zidane. But his length of contract has not yet been confirmed.

Zidane

Zidane, who spent five years at the club during the ‘Galacticos’ era during which he won a European crown in 2002, will become the third manager this season for Real Madrid after the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui and then Solari, who was in charge for a mere 5 months.

Zidane was first appointed as the Real Madrid coach in January 2016, after a spell in charge of the B team and he was an instant hit at the Bernabeu.

Zidane’s Real Madrid record:

UEFA Super Cup220053100
Spanish Super Cup220051100

Zidane had stepped down last May after winning a third consecutive Champions League with the club he represented for five years as a player. He said: “I am doing this for the good of this team, for this club. It would have been difficult for me to win again next year. There have been good moments, but also difficult times. I do not forget that. And at this club, you must know this. I do not want to start a season and have a bad time. I want to end with Real Madrid when everything is going well. I did it as a player, and now again as a coach. This [is] the right moment to end things well.”

Zidane

Solari has reportedly said his goodbyes to the staff at Madrid’s Valdebebas training ground and have been relieved of his duties following a torrid run of results. Zidane has been convinced to return by president Florentino Perez despite receiving offers from elsewhere, with Juventus said to be among his suitors.

According to Spanish media outlet Marca, Zidane is once again expected to be reappointed as the head coach of Real Madrid and to take his first training session on Tuesday before managing his first game against Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

Sergio Ramos has posted his personal Q&A on Instagram

The Real Madrid captain has posted his personal Q&A on Instagram to show that he is not hiding from the spotlight at the time of crisis at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have been knocked out of all competitions within a week. Back to back Clasico defeats against Barcelona have cost them both the Copa del Rey and the LaLiga. And then a humiliating 4-1 defeat to a young Ajax side have also ended their UEFA Champions League campaign.

It was reported after the loses that Ramos had a dressing room argument with the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Ramos was also blamed for taking a deliberate yellow card against Ajax in the dying moments of the 1st leg. UEFA then decided to ban him for an extra game after he suggested in a television interview that he was booked deliberately to avoid a possible quarter-final ban.

Sergio Ramos

After all these speculations, Sergio Ramos has come to the front and has given the answers to all the questions that have been raised and have also supported under-fire coach Santiago Solari. He has posted on Instagram an interview of his personal Q&A.

Sergio Ramos wrote: “As footballers we like to do our talking on the pitch but this season is not turning out that way. Recent events have been disastrous and I’m not hiding. We are not hiding. We the players are primarily responsible and I, as captain, more than anyone. That’s why I thought that the most honest way to answer the questions that are circulating around us would be to tackle them directly.”

Then in his interview, he continued: “Was the yellow card in Amsterdam an error?
Absolutely it was an error and I take the blame 200 per cent.

Why did you record the documentary [while banned for the Ajax match]?
There are certain commitments made and it never remotely went through my head that the game could have turned out as it did. The recording itself was scaled down as the game went on.

Sergio Ramos with Perez

Did you argue with the president in the dressing room?
Dressing room issues are discussed and resolved in the dressing room. There’s no problem whatsoever and everybody has the same interest: Real Madrid.

“Did you address your team-mates and criticise them? We always talk and motivate each other in the dressing room and always in a constructive way.

“Did you have a confrontation with Marcelo?
We have exchanges in every training session. It’s part of working with pressure. But it’s just an anecdote like so many others that happen from day to day. Marce is like a brother to me.

“Why did you travel to Valladolid? Because I wanted to be close and support my team-mates.

“What’s happening with the coach?
It’s a decision that’s not ours to make and in which we never interfere. We have enormous respect for the position and we always support the Real Madrid coach.

Sergio Ramos

“These reflections are, without doubt, the result of a deeply disappointing season but if success didn’t stop us, we’re not going to let defeat stop us. It’s our obligation to carry on, to work and to evolve. And to remember that some of us are lucky enough to play for Real Madrid, some of us are lucky enough to form part of its history, but Real Madrid was, is and will always be Real Madrid. No one name makes the legend of Real Madrid, but we have all written that legend together.
Together we have to work for the future and restore our hope.”

Muller, Hummels and Boateng axed from Germany national team

Joachim Low confirmed in an interview on Tuesday that the World Cup winning trio – Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels – will not be part of his plans for Euro 2020.

Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels were an integral part of the Germany side which won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Muller has won 100 caps since his debut against Argentina on 3rd March, 2010, scoring 38 goals. Hummels has appeared 70 times since his first cap on 13th May, 2010 and has bagged five goals. Boateng scored just one goal in his 74 games for Die Mannschaft, appearing for the first time in a World Cup qualifier on 10th October, 2009 in Russia. Germany national team coach Joachim Low announced on Tuesday ahead of their 1st fixture of 2019 against Serbia on 20th March that the Bayern Munich trio will not be further selected in the Germany squad.

Germany on Twitter

📰 @esmuellert_, @matshummels and @JB17Official have been told by Joachim #Löw today that they are no longer part of his #DieMannschaft plans 👉 https://t.co/YEoV67h6vz

In an official statement unveiling the news on the team’s website, it states: “Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels are not part of Joachim Low’s future plans. The German head coach confirmed his decision on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the first international of the year against Serbia in Wolfsburg on 20th March.”
Joachim Low explaining the statement said that: “2019 is a new beginning for the Germany national team. It was important for me to personally explain my decision to the players and the FC Bayern management.
Now it’s time to set the course for the future. We want to give the team a new look. I am convinced that this is the right step. With the EURO 2020 qualifying campaign about to begin, we wanted to make it clear that this is a new start. The youngsters coming through will have the room they need to grow. Now it’s up to them to take on responsibility.” Low thanked the three 2014 World Cup winners for many successful, extraordinary and unforgettable years.

Muller, Boateng and Hummels

DFB president Reinhard Grindel has backed up Low’s tough decision. He said: “I appreciate that Joachim wants to carry on changing the shape of the national side. Making personnel changes at the start of the qualifying phase for EURO 2020 is the right time.”

DFB director and national-team coordinator Oliver Bierhoff also supported the move: “We now want to make it clear that this is a new beginning for the squad. The current mission is to decide what’s best for the national team, in order for it to return to the top of the world. Thomas, Mats and Jerome achieved so much with Germany and will continue doing so with their clubs. I still feel very connected to them and I am thankful for their work with the national side.”

Thomas Mueller Muller, Hummels and Boateng axed from Germany national team

But the Bayern Munich attacker has not reacted well to the decision of Low and DFB. Muller said in a video posted to social media: “The longer I think about it, the more I get angry about the way this happened. I do not understand why this decision must be so final. I was totally dumbfounded by this decision out of the blue by the national coach. A national coach must take decisions. I do not doubt that.
But Mats, Jerome and I are able to still play football at a top level. Together with the DFB we have come a long, intense and mostly successful way over the last years. Shortly after we learned about that decision by the national coach, we read prepared statements by the DFB and its president in the media. For me that is not a good style and it is definitely not a sign of respect.
I was always proud to wear the DFB shirt. I always gave everything. It was an incredible journey. I am a fighter and I will look ahead now. The game’s not over.”

Boateng Muller, Hummels and Boateng axed from Germany national team

Jerome Boateng wrote on Instagram: “I am sad about this news because it has always been the greatest thing for me to represent my country. Nevertheless, I respect the new course and understand the decision of the national coach. I was young myself and reliant on older players to make room for me. Personally, I am convinced that I can continue to play at the highest level and will continue to do so in the future.
I will always look back with great pleasure on the time spent in the DFB team. I have always been extremely proud to wear the jersey of the national team and I will never forget summer 2014 in particular.
Of course, I would have wished for another farewell for us. Good luck to the team for the future!”

Hummels

Mats Hummels has also tweeted: “With some distance, I would also like to comment on the decision of the national team coach. “Regardless of what I think is a reasonable sporting decision (which, of course, I respect), I can’t comprehend the way it has been delivered. In my opinion, I have always had a good relationship with the people at the DFB and we have always been fair with each other.
Thomas, Jerome and I gave everything for the national team for years and the way this has been handled doesn’t do justice to what we’ve accomplished and achieved in my eyes. And that leaves me far from cold because I loved playing for Germany!
For me, I can say: they have been wonderful years, 70 caps, far exceeding everything I once dreamed of as a kid. I was allowed to take part in four major tournaments. Crowned by winning the 2014 World Cup. I will carry this feeling inside me forever and I would have really liked to have given everything again to repeat something similar.”

Obviously, all three of them are deeply shocked and saddened following their unlikely termination from the Germany national team. They have won the 2014 World Cup for Germany, and that’s reason enough for them to get a proper farewell. The way this has been handled is far from what they actually deserve. It makes us sad, as football fans, to see our legends being disrespected and not getting honoured by the team, for which they have given everything.

Indian team 2 Kohli's century and a brilliant team work brought India's 500th odi victory.

images 6 Kohli's century and a brilliant team work brought India's 500th odi victory.

Virat Kohli scored his 40th ODI century. Kohli is only 9 century short of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most number of odi century(49).

A collective failure of Australian nerve saw India take a stranglehold of the ODI series in Nagpur, after the visitors found a way to lose despite needing only 33 from 34 balls with five wickets in hand at one point.

On a dry, slow Nagpur pitch that had always seemed likely to aid the team bowling second, the Australians wrestled gamely with India for most of the match in the face of Kohli’s brilliance and the wiles of Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav.

Jasprit Bumrah 2 Kohli's century and a brilliant team work brought India's 500th odi victory.

Bumrah was once again supreme, critically claiming two wickets for just one run in the 46th over of the innings and then cornering Stoinis into playing out another over worth one in the 48th, while Kuldeep’s three wickets counterbalanced greater expense than usual. They set things up for Vijay Shankar to take the final two wickets while defending 11 off the last over.

India had lost Rohit Sharma in the first over and regular wickets for much of their innings, but Kohli found enough support from the likes of Vijay and Ravindra Jadeja to take his side to a defendable tally in hot weather.

Occupying 120 balls, Kohli’s 116 took him into equal second place with Rohit Sharma behind Sachin Tendulkar’s nine for the most 50-over centuries against Australia with seven apiece.

Pat Cummins was Australia’s outstanding bowler with four wickets and considerable economy, while Nathan Lyon was also more than useful on his recall to the team.

This win in Nagpur brought up the 500th odi win.

India’s milestone ODI wins:
1st: 10 wkts vs East Africa, 1975
100th: 43 runs vs SA, Mohali, 1993
200th: 8 wkts vs Ken, Nairobi, 2000
300th: 20 runs vs WI, Cuttack, 2007
400th: 6 wkts vs SL, Colombo RPS, 2012
500th: 8 runs vs Aus, Nagpur, 2019

Virat Kohli was awarded with the Man of the Match award. He broke a record of winning man of the match award. Kohli surpassed Ganguly who had 31 awards.

Most MoM awards in ODIs (India):
62 S Tendulkar (463 ODIs)
32 V KOHLI (224)
31 S Ganguly (308)
27 Yuvraj Singh (301)
23 V Sehwag (241)
20 MS Dhoni (337)

After the Champions Trophy 2017 India has the record of bowling out the opponents for the most number of times.

Bowling out opponents most times in ODIs post CT 2017:
22/50 India
14/25 Afghanistan
13/30 New Zealand
12/28 Pakistan
11/26 South Africa
10/31 England

The next match in at Ranchi on 8th March. India will look forward to clinch the series, as they are leading by 2-0.
