WhatsApp could soon become a key player in the Indian digital payment market

0

Last month we saw the launch of WhatsApp Pay in India. And though many were skeptical about the release of UPI services by a social media app, the app still managed to garner many users. Though the app still managed to get some users on its transaction platform, the number of transactions it processed is relatively less, considering WhatsApp’s popularity.

According to sources, WhatsApp Pay only managed to have 310,000 unified payments interface transactions in November. The numbers are provided by the National Payments Corp. of India (NPCI) and are legit. But analysts claim that WhatsApp Pay is backed by none other than the social media giant Facebook. It won’t take much time for WhatsApp Pay to come up with attractive cashback offers to attract the Indian fan-base.

One of the reasons why the service saw a limited number of transactions in November is that the service was not available to every Indian user on time. Reports estimate that over 400 million users of WhatsApp were not able to receive the payment service access.

“Many users still do not know that WhatsApp has payments capability. As users start interacting with businesses, and when businesses start sending payment requests via UPI, gradually, we will see transactions grow on WhatsApp too.”

The users who have used WhatsApp Pay has had a unique experience. The interface is the best we have ever seen in any payment service app, and the best thing is that it is integrated into a chat window. However, analysts suggest that the payment being incorporated as a feature of the app gives WhatsApp edge over others.

“Many merchants are already using WhatsApp from a transaction point of view for sharing product photos and videos with customers. The payment in such cases is made through third-party apps like Paytm.”

Mino Raiola clears doubt on Haaland and de Ligt future

Mino Raiola is right up there with the best agents in the world. His clients include wonderkids Erling Haaland and Matthijs de Ligt among many other world-class athletes like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.

Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world right now, and was awarded with the Golden Boy award for 2020, due to his unbelievable performance throughout the year. The Norwegian netted a second half hat-trick after coming off the bench in his debut for Dortmund, and has not stopped scoring since.

Considering his goalscoring exploits at Dortmund, it is easy to forget that Haaland arrived at the club only in January of this year. It has not even been a year since he moved from Salzburg to the Westfalenstadion.

As it is with every promising youngster these days, a move to the biggest clubs in the world is always rumoured to be around the corner. Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the names that have been linked with the goalscoring machine, for a move in the future.

However, Mino Raiola has called for a slowing down of the rumours. The agent explained that there is currently no rush for any move for Haaland. The player is happy at the club and wants to stay for the time being.

de ligt Mino Raiola clears doubt on Haaland and de Ligt future

The striker is confident about a move to a bigger club in the future, but there is no movement at the moment. The same can be said for Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt, who has a release clause worth €150 million that kicks in from 2022. A move to another European giant could surely be on the cards two years down the line.

Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai could be on the move soon

With the group stages of the Champions League now played, and Salzburg in the Europa League, a move for their star midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai looks closer than ever.

Speaking on his future on the “Here We Go” podcast on Patreon, Fabrizio and Francesco Romano mentioned that the Hungarian was on the radar of the top European clubs like Arsenal, AC Milan, and German Bundesliga sister club RB Leipzig.

The 20-year-old has been involved in 9 goal contributions in the league from 10 appearances, with 4 goals and 5 assists to his name. He has managed to find the back of the net on two occasions for Salzburg in the Champions League, taking his tally to 6 from 16.

The club and player were focused on their Champions League campaign, but with that out of the way, they will be looking to sit down and discuss the player’s future. A final decision can be expected around next week.

The main condition that the Hungarian wants fulfilled is promised playing time on the pitch. That is something that both Arsenal and RB Leipzig can offer right away.

However, Milan will have to sort out their business with Calhanoglu if they want to lure Szoboszlai to Italy.

A release clause worth €25 million was spoken about by the Italian brothers in their podcast. Considering the financial landscape of football right now, that number is peanuts for a lot of the clubs competing in Europe.

With that out of the way, the real challenge will be convincing him to join a particular club amidst all the potential suitors.

Breakdance gets Olympic status and is about to make its debut at the Paris Olympic games 2024.

It will be the first-ever dance sport to be included in the Olympic games. Though it has been already staged at the Youth Olympic in Buenos Aires two years ago.

“Today is a historic occasion, not only for b-boys and b-girls but for all dancers around the world,” said Shawn Tay, president of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).

Not only this but the International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board has also announced that skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will be a part of the Olympic games too, which were about to make their debut at the postponed Tokyo Games will be featured in Paris, too.

“The WDSF could not be prouder to have breaking included at Paris 2024, and we thank everyone who helped make it possible: the executive board of the IOC, the Paris 2024 organizers, the WDSF staff and, most importantly, the breaking community itself.”It was a true team effort to get to this moment and we will redouble our efforts in the lead-up to the Olympic Games to make sure the breaking competition at Paris 2024 will be unforgettable.”

Paris 2024 will see 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls, the term that is used for competitive breakdancers. They are going to compete in one vs one battles, and it is hoped the sport’s inclusion will attract a young audience to the Olympics.

At the 2018 Youth Olympics, there were three medals in that event that drew crowds of more than 30,000 people each day, according to the WDSF.

Breakdancing will be called breaking at the Olympics, as it was in the 1970s by hip-hop pioneers in the United States.

AMD will probably end the production of its Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6800 reference models by the end of Q1 of 2021

0

Advanced Micro Devices has released its RDNA-2 based Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6800 cards. But the company has earlier announced that it will soon end the production of RDNA-2 cards as they will only be a once-off release product. However, the manufacturer soon retracted its statement saying that it will extend the production of its Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6900 graphics cards due to popular demand.

AMD launched its Radeon RX 6900 and RX 6800 series reference models directly through OEMs, AIBs, and even by itself. But it wanted to make the reference models the last of their batch. So the retailers and OEMs were left with the lingering fear of not having enough cards to meet the market demand.

But the recent announcement from AMD comes as a relief to both the vendors and buyers as the popularity of AMD’s big Navi series is incredibly high. It was only fair for the manufacturer to increase the rate and duration of its production. AMD has now confirmed that the reference model will be produced through early 2021.

The company expects that around the same time; the global supply will get better for AMD. The purchase of Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT & the RX 6800 graphics cards needs to be done soon. There’s no telling when we will see the last reference model sell out given the huge demand.

AMD is preparing to end the production of its reference models soon in the coming months; it indicates that the manufacturer has custom models ready for its RDNA-2 cards and is most likely of the market’s best quality. It will be interesting to see what the company has up its sleeve to take on its rival Nvidia.

Previously, he has refereed in 13 games but worked under the title of ‘non-staff workers’. He was one of the six members to be a part of the staff for this season.

At the moment, other well-known Indian-American faces in the NBA circuit are Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, and Sonia Raman, assistant coach of the Memphis Grizzlies.

After putting several health and safety guidelines for COVID-19 in place, the NBA will finally set the ball rolling on December 22 with two much-anticipated and highly spoken about clashes – Golden State Warriors vs Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers vs Los Angeles Clippers. Stephen Curry, who will return to the court after months, will face Kevin Durant as an opponent.

The LA Lakers, who are the reigning champions, will start their campaigns against a team that saw a heartbreaking exit from the league, in the playoffs last season. However, the Clippers are determined to prove themselves this season, while LeBron James and the Lakers will aim for a two-peat.

Amid the numerous curbs and restrictions, the NBA’s scheduling has also been hit. The authorities have announced the fixtures of only the first half, as yet which begins from December 22, 2020 and will continue till March 4, 2021.

The NBA preseason will resume on December 11 post short All-Star games, where all teams will play a minimum of two and a maximum of four games. The league is also focusing on Christmas games this year, scheduling five games for the day.

Three members of Raptors test positive for COVID-19; practice facility to remain open

0

On Monday morning, the Toronto Raptors announced that three members within the organization have tested positive for COVID-19. The Raptors relocated to Tampa Bay, Florida for the upcoming season after the Canadian government decided that the organization could not play in the country because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. They determined that there was no further spread of the disease within the franchise after contact tracing.

The Raptors’ statement read:

“During the league-mandated testing period prior to training camp, three members of the Toronto Raptors organization tested positive for COVID-19. All three are, and will continue to, self-isolate away from the rest of the organization. Adherence to protocols, follow-up testing and contact tracing has so far revealed no spread to other members of the Raptors organization. We continue to follow safety protocols, and will update the situation as appropriate.”

In their statement, the Raptors did not mention the need to close their practice facility as these tests occurred before training camp begun on December 1. Toronto is the third team in the NBA so far to report positive coronavirus results, with the Portland Trail Blazers most recently closing training camp to undergo deep cleaning post three franchise members testing positive.

The Golden State Warriors also had two players test positive for the virus prior to the initiation of training camp, forcing them to delay the start of their practices. As the NBA continues to gear up for the start of the 2020-21 season, the possibility of other teams testing positive for the virus is something that the NBA will have to be prepared for.

The league sent out health and safety protocols last week, that has to be followed by all players, coaches and staff personnel during the season. If these regulations are not followed, serious punishment could be handed down to players and teams that include a decrease in player salary and loss of draft selections.
