To Lead Or Not To Lead: Taking a look at the Hero Indian Super League 2020-21 club captains

The quality of captaincy is a valuable component in football, for they are usually the focal point of their team’s performances on the pitch, the person a manager seems to trust and the player many aspiring youngsters look up to as a role model. Even ISL have had some good captains over the years, and it is no different this season as well.

Here is the list of ISL captains across all the 11 teams in the seventh edition of the tournament –

1) Bengaluru FC – Sunil Chhetri

Who better to kick off the elite list than the Indian national team skipper, Sunil Chhetri himself? Although he is 37 now, he is still fitter than ever and looking to lead BFC to glory this season, by motivating the players and with some goals off his boot as well.

Versatile enough to step into central defence when required, Pritam’s experience with the national team has made him a well-rounded player as well as a leader.

3) Mumbai City FC – Amrinder Singh

One of the veteran keepers in Indian football, Amrinder Singh has spent the majority of his ISL career with Mumbai and deservedly, takes the captain’s armband. His saves and dives will all be important for Sergio Lobera’s side, and will no doubt look to infuse energy in a bid to make the Playoffs.

One of the few foreigners to not leave the team for Mumbai City along with Lobera, Edu Bedia’s performances and loyalty were rewarded in the form of club captaincy by new coach Juan Ferrando. The midfielder who is quite versatile will look to lead by example by supplying goals and assists, as Goa seek to mount a serious title challenge.

5) Odisha FC – Steven Taylor

An experienced English centre-back playing in the lower leagues of British football, Taylor comes with loads of experience and a knack of shutting out opposition forwards. The commanding defender will want to marshal his troops and maintain the squad harmony as Odisha look to perform better this time around.

6) Kerala Blasters – Costa Nhamoinesu

Recruited specially by manager Kibu Vicuna, the Zimbabwean defender brings with himself a treasure chest of skills and leadership that is necessary to get the job done. After Kerala lost defender Sandesh Jhinghan they had to find the requisite leadership profile in a centre-back and will hope Costa is the man for the task.

7) Northeast United – Benjamin Lambot

As one big-name striker left, another was signed up by Mumbai for the increased reputation of the brand. And this time it was Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan who had previously played for Manchester United and Inter Milan among the bigger clubs. Forlan was paid Rs 6 crores for his services and did decently well scoring 5 goals in 11 games for the Islanders.

1) Alessandro Del Piero – Delhi Dynamos

Reminiscing Alessandro del Piero: Delhi Dynamos' marquee player from 1st season

Probably the biggest of them, Juventus’ dynamic midfield supremo Alessandro Del Piero was paid a whopping Rs 10.8 crores to play for the Delhi Dynamos. He came with fanfare and much aplomb but despite the reputation, Del Piero scored just the 1 goals in 10 ISL games and did not live up to the billing.

Fortnite could make a return on Apple via Nvidia GeForce

With the launch of a web client that allows users to play games using web browsers, the mobile gaming platform is taking the next step in cloud gaming. Gamers can now play the titles which are unavailable on Apple devices. They can use their browsers on Apple mobile and then can play their games using Safari. It could very well mean that we can see the advent of Fortnite on Apple after many months.

The was pulled from Apple’s online store in mid-August after developer Epic Games released an update that dodges revenue sharing with the iPhone maker. Since then, both companies are locked in a legal battle.

Now Nvidia has developed a version of its GeForce Now cloud gaming service that runs on Apple’s browser. It allows for games to be played directly using Safari. Users don’t have to worry about the title is available on the App store.

Nvidia stated that “GeForce NOW is streaming on iOS Safari, in beta, starting today. That means more than 5 million GeForce NOW members can now access the latest experience by launching Safari from the iPhone or iPad.”

The green team also promised Fortnite players that they would soon be able to use Apple mobile devices, but there is a delay before Epic finalizes its touch-friendly version.

Nvidia further stated that “We’re looking forward to delivering a cloud-streaming Fortnite mobile experience powered by GeForce NOW. Members can look for the game on iOS Safari soon.”

Epic and Apple are fighting over whether Apple’s control of the App Store and its 30 percent cut of revenue is a monopolistic behavior or not. A trial to resolve the dispute is due until next year.

The company’s ‘Indie by AJIO’ and ‘Swadesh’ initiatives offered over 40,000 artisanal products this Diwali across its retail formats

Mumbai, November 23, 2020: In a strong push to locally made artisanal products, Reliance Retail showcased more than 40,000 artisan-crafted products from over 50 GI clusters to its customers this festive season. A direct result of its three-year-old flagship initiatives – “Indie by AJIO” and “Swadesh” – started to provide avenues for sales and employment to local craftsmen, the programs now engage with more than 30,000 craftsmen, representing over 600 art forms across a wide spectrum of clothing, textiles, handicrafts and handmade natural goods.

Said Mr. Akhilesh Prasad, President – Reliance Fashion & Lifestyle, “We are delighted that our development efforts over the last few years are now bearing strong results both in our ability to engage with an increasing number of craftsmen as well as our ability to co-create and co-curate products that are being increasingly accepted by today’s consumers.”

Reliance Retail’s success in bringing such a huge repertoire of traditional handcrafted products to its modern retail formats is also an indication of the existence of demand for such products, as long as consumers’ expectations of quality, style, and convenience of modern retail buying can be met.

Indie by AJIO is an online marketplace for local artisans and handcrafted products and celebrates India’s brilliant textile and handloom traditions with careful curation and contemporary interpretation. The AJIO platform features this distinctive idiom beautifully in the wide lifestyle products ranging from apparel to home furnishing and accessories such as jewelry and footwear.

The craft repertoire includes Ikat, Shibori, Banarasi, Bagh, Ajrakh to Jamdani, Tangail, Chanderi, and many more. The Indie range is sourced from over 50 GI crafts clusters from across India – including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. The Geographical Indication (GI) tag identifies natural produce, handicrafts, or manufactured goods as products native to a territory, region, or locality for their unique characteristics by attributing them to their geographical origin. With a rapidly expanding portfolio, Indie by AJIO helps customers discover the best of Indian fashion and crafts and offers the convenience of delivering them right at customers’ doorsteps.

“The diversity of sourcing from across India’s length and breadth has resulted not only in the creation of a stunning portfolio that is every handcraft connoisseur’s dream but also in direct employment for over 30,000 skilled artisans across the country. We will continue to grow this segment with time,” says Mr. Akhilesh Prasad, President – Reliance Fashion & Lifestyle.

Pintoo Lal Chhipa, an artisan who practices natural dye hand block printing in Akola, Udaipur is associated with Reliance Retail for the last 4 years and is committed to sustaining this Indian traditional craft. Through regular orders from Reliance Retail, he is able to support a group of 30 artisans who work with him and practice different hand block printing processes like, printing, washing, dyeing, drying, etc.

Devchand, from a remote village of Bikaner, works as a link between women Reliance and artisans of that region who are extremely talented in hand embroideries. He generates livelihoods for over 25 women in the arid region of Thar and these women look forward to orders from Reliance Retail as they use this additional income for their family.

Swadesh is a special brand of Reliance Retail that brings alive India’s rich handcrafted traditions and offers over 400 types of handmade textiles, handicrafts, and agricultural products that are listed with Geographical Indications. Swadesh has an MOU with the Ministry of Textiles which enables the sourcing of 100% authentically crafted products, directly from artisan communities. Swadesh brand is available across multiple formats including AJIO and Trends.

Further, as a member of the AIACA (All India Artisans & Craftworkers Welfare Association), all of Swadesh’s products come with a craft mark certification such as Dabu, Chanderi weaving, Single Ikat weaving, Kutch leatherwork, Chikankari embroidery, Kashida kari, Ajrakh, Applique, Bagru block printing, Hand block printing, Block printed kalamkari, Mangalgiri handloom weaving, etc.

Added to this is the membership of DC (Handloom), Govt of India & textile committee that authorizes Swadesh to use the “Handloom Mark” on all its handloom products ensuring authenticity and commitment to the products.

“The future of Swadesh is poised at an exciting stage. It is emerging not only as of the preferred brand of artisanal and handicraft products for consumers but is also aiding the revival and growth of artisans and weavers across apparel, home textiles, home décor, furniture, accessories, and more”, added Mr. Prasad.

Gary Nevile explains the possible reason behind Manchester City’s recent decline

0

At the start of this Premier League season, it was expected that it would be an open title race after Chelsea went on a spending spree and other sides also improved. But it was unpredictable that former champions Manchester City would be languishing in the bottom half of the table. It has been a disastrous start, the worst in any season since Pep Guardiola started his coaching career back in 2008.

Manchester City have scored just 10 goals in eight Premier League games this season – at the same stage of the last term, they had scored 27. You can see the massive difference in the numbers which clearly suggests that Manchester City is lacking some attacking firepower.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville feels that Manchester City has been slow in transition and over-reliant on Kevin De Bruyne along with Ederson’s lack of form.

Neville told Sky Sports about what’s wrong with Manchester City: “The biggest thing for me is in transition. They are not as quick at getting the ball back. Teams are more comfortable playing a pass through them and taking a risk. City used to be all over you like a rash when losing the ball or would just sustain attacks – but it’s less than it was before.”

“Ederson doesn’t look as comfortable in goal, he’s making mistakes he wouldn’t have made a couple of seasons ago. There seems too much reliance on Kevin De Bruyne. Something is not quite right.”

“Pep seems to be searching for the right combinations. A couple of seasons ago you could reel off the team: Sane, Sterling, Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva, Fernandinho, Kompany – you could tell what was going to happen each game.”

“I don’t get that feeling anymore that the fluidity and continuity is quite there.”

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City need to come up with new tactics and start performing on the pitch sooner than later to have any chance of fighting for the title or else it will be too late to make a comeback.

BCCI declares the revenue generated from IPL 2020

Indian Premier League 2020 ended just a few days ago and Mumbai Indians became the champion for the record 5th times this year. BCCI recently announced the super successful 13th season of IPL.

In an interview to Indian Express, BCCI declared that the board has earned almost 4000 Cr. They even reduced the cost by 35%. Viewership also increased by 25%.

BCCI member Arun Dhumal said, “The Board managed to cut nearly 35 percent of the cost as compared to the last IPL. We earned Rs 4,000 crore during the pandemic time. Our TV viewership went about 25 percent higher, we got the highest-ever opening game (Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings) viewership. Those who doubted us came and thanked us for hosting the IPL. Had this IPL not happened, cricketers would have lost one year.”

Dhumal also revealed that BCCI was about to cancel the IPL this year after Novak Djokovic tested positive. He said, “After that report (about Djokovic testing positive) came in, we were in two minds. Many people told us to not go ahead with it (IPL). What if something happens to a player? The IPL would go on for almost three months. However, Jay said we should go ahead, he was more confident than all of us.”

The official broadcaster of IPL, Star India also thanked BCCI for this immense success. Sports Head of Star India Sanjog Gupta said, “Season 13 witnessed innovative programming, world-class production – both remote and on-ground.”

The great success of IPL in this pandemic situation describes the strength and acceptability of the tournament.

Ibrahimovic leads Serie A scoring charts but will miss upcoming games

0

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still one of the best strikers in the world. Any doubt regarding the Swede’s ability, and his ‘decline due to ageing’ has been silenced by the AC Milan striker in his 6 games for the club in Serie A.

The fact that Zlatan is 39 years old is unbelievable given that he has scored 10 goals already and leads the Serie A scoring charts, all alone at the top.

Zlatan managed to break a personal record with his first-half brace against Napoli that eventually ended 3-1 in favour of the visitors.

The forward has now managed to score in eight straight Serie A games when those from last season are included. With a career spanning decades, the fact that he can still achieve this shows how amazing Zlatan truly is.

Milan managed to hold on to their spot at the top of the Serie A table as they took all three points from Naples, The Rossoneri currently have 20 points from 8 games, and are still unbeaten in the league.

Their only defeat in the 20/21 campaign was at the hands of Lille in the Europa League, a match that they lost 3-0.

Despite that, the team’s run of form since the get-go has managed to put them as one of the frontrunners for the Europa League title this season.

While his performances on the pitch might not show any signs of rust, the immensely packed schedule is catching up to the 39-year-old. Zlatan collapsed in a heap in the second half of the Napoli match and went off the pitch limping.

The club now fears that their talisman could be out for a month, and would miss vital fixtures for the club. However, Milan will be hoping for the return of Rafael Leao from injury to help out with the attack. The Rossoneri face Lille in the Europa League in midweek before hosting Fiorentina over the weekend.
