All you need to know AMD’s new Ryzen 5000U series APUs

0

Finally, today AMD has announced its much-awaited Ryzen 5000U series processors after the exceptional year of 2020 with the Ryzen 4000U processors. So, these new mobile APUs are still using 15W of TDP but offering significant improvements over last gen.

But as predicted with the leaks AMD has opted to make its lineup a mixed bag as it has a mix of Zen 2 refresh or Lucienne APUs and new Zen 3 based Cezanne APUs. So if you have an APU with an odd suffix i.e. if it’s 5500U or 5700U, then it’s a Renoir refresh using Zen 2 cores, however, if it has even a suffix like 5600U, or 5800U, then a Cezanne APU with Zen 3 cores.

Note that, the major difference you will see with these Renoir refreshed APUs is that this time SMT will be enabled in all of these APUs, i.e. the 5500U will have 6 cores and 12 threads, while Ryzen 7 5700U will sport 8 cores and 16 threads.

As you see the entire lineup is similar to the previous-gen only that now you have three Zen 3 based Cezanne APUs and three Zen 2 based Lucienne APUs.

From the entry-level AMD Ryzen 3 5300U to the flagship AMD Ryzen 7 5800U, you are still getting 8 cores and 16 threads in a 15W TDP and clock speeds up to 4.4GHz on thin and light laptops.

All you need to know AMD's new Ryzen 5000U series APUs

For mainstream consumers looking for performance on-the-go, the AMD Ryzen 5000 U-Series Mobile Processors offer the perfect blend of performance and efficiency. The new AMD Ryzen 7 5800U processor offers:

  • Up to 16% more single-threaded performance and up to 14% faster-multithreaded performance over the previous generation
  • Up to an incredible 17.5 hours of general usage battery life and up to 21 hours of movie playback on a single charge
All you need to know AMD's new Ryzen 5000U series APUs

From providing impressive gains over its last-gen, the flagship Ryzen 7 5800U with all its Zen 3 cores is a great APU for buyers. Also, AMD seems to have done a lot of optimizations to increase the battery life support with these new Ryzen 5000U APUs.

All you need to know AMD's new Ryzen 5000U series APUs

Due to the inclusion of the extra threads to the Renoir refresh or Lucienne APUs, you get better multi-threaded performance on the Ryzen 3 5300U, Ryzen 5 5500U and the Ryzen 7 5700U. Whereas, the Cezanne APUs benefit from having the new Zen 3 cores resulting in healthy increase in multi-threaded performance as well over last-gen.

Also, as for now, AMD has not stated the exact iGPU specs of these new APUs, but it will be based on the same Vega graphics but expect higher clock speeds and some improvements as a result of the generational uplift.

You can expect more laptops with AMD Ryzen 5000U APUs as OEMs will opt for AMD more this time and availability could be sooner this time as pandemics won’t be regular one.

All you need to know about Nio ET7: An AV electric sedan to be released in 2022

Nio have unveiled the ET7, an electric sedan that promises to have autonomous capabilities and is also set to be powered by solid state batteries in the future. There are two versions of the ET7 that will be made available by the Chinese company.

The first option lets consumers drive 500 kilometers (about 310 miles) on a full battery for 448,000 yuan (about $69,000). The other option, while a little more expensive, is expected to cover 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) for 506,000 yuan (about $78,000). The project is expected to be made available in markets next year.

An additional option will be made available for consumers, which is labeled as the Premier Edition, and is set to be priced at 526,000 yuan (roughly $81,000).

Inside the ET7, a 12.8-inch OLED display pops out from the center of the dashboard, powered by the newest automotive-rated version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.

A digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel, and Nio’s little ball-shaped AI robot, Nomi, is perched on top of the dashboard. The ET7 is powered by a 180kW electric motor up front and a 300 kW motor in the rear, which combine to make more than 600 horsepower.

Nio is also developing a solid-state battery pack that it says can push the range over 1,000 kilometers, or about 621 miles. (It should be noted that Nio is using the far more optimistic NEDC standard, meaning real-world range might not live up to these claims.)

That pack will become available in late 2022, Nio says, and will be compatible with the company’s three existing SUVs as well, should customers want to swap in a much longer-range option.

We all are familiar with online shopping and nowadays, it becomes a trend for almost every kind of product, either it’s groceries or electronics products, or something else. Thanks to the global pandemic. The platforms are also trying to upgrade their services day by day, so one of their main concern is the delivery system. The concept of delivering products with drones is already in the market, only that remains to be implemented.

A Verizon company, Skyward along with UPS Flight Forward (Federal Aviation Administration certified company, 2019) announced their collaboration, at CES 2021, to develop drones to deliver retail products to the doorsteps. And in this project, the drones will be connected to Verizon 4G LTE, as well as 5G. Their aim is to assign the product delivery job to drones in the villages of Florida.

The CEO of UPS, Carol B. Tomé said, “We will need the ability to manage and support multiple drones, flying simultaneously, dispatched from a centralized location, operating in a secure and safe environment. To do this at scale, alongside Verizon and Skyward, we’ll need the power of 5G,

“We’re just beginning to see how the power of 5G Ultra Wideband will transform the way businesses operate,” stated the Chief Strategy Officer of Verizon, Rima Qureshi. She added, “By partnering with UPS and other innovative companies, we can learn from each other’s expertise and collaborate to create solutions that help move the world forward.”

In case you don’t know, these three companies started testing 4G LTE in delivery drones last year.

“The low latency of 5G and edge compute is ideal for monitoring air traffic in and out of a busy logistics hub, especially those using mixed fleets of autonomous vehicles like drones, trucks, and planes,” – Mariah Scott, the Skyward President. “This year, we’ll be taking the collaboration with UPS further by testing 5G Ultra Wideband integrations to connect the sky.”
