CES 2021: GlobalM brings advanced streaming technologies

0

GlobalM, representing SwissTech at CES 2021, is a Mediatech startup from Switzerland with a new and innovative streaming technology. The need for low latency, broadcast quality streaming for remote production has emerged with the Covid-19 pandemic. GlobalM offers a streaming service for media organisations to accept live streams from their own staff journalists, freelance reporters or program guests directly from a smartphone.

The app is developed for high-quality contribution, capturing the raw image frames and processing them with the smartphones hardware encoder. This combined with an advanced streaming network based on a CDN (Content Delivery Network) architecture connects the stream at its closest point of presence on the network and delivers it to the media organisation or event on a fast dedicated backbone.

GlobalM utilises a new transport protocol called SRT (Secure Reliable Transport). The mobile app uses SRT to transport the high-quality MPEG Transport Stream from the mobile device to the video

decoder. The SRT protocol is open source and is now supported by more than 450 different professional video manufacturers of hardware and software applications as well as in the open-source community with FFMPEG and VideoLAN both now supporting SRT.

The application and network are perfect solutions for remote production, mobile newsgathering and video contribution within media networks. It is designed to be simple to use yet powerful for media organisations seeking a solution for all types of remote coverage that is currently trying to be done with traditional video conferencing or social video streaming applications.

“We see many media networks, programs or award ceremonies currently using video conferencing or social media applications for remote callers to connect with a production, but these applications were never designed to connect to media production systems,” says Paul Calleja, CTO of GlobalM. “A video conferencing system needs to be cropped out and screen captured to make it somehow interface with a production system, and social media applications have on screen graphics that can’t be removed. GlobalM provides a brilliant solution for overcoming these problems while not overcomplicating it for users and guests.”

Recent productions such as the European Film Awards and one of the world’s toughest one-day cycling races in Switzerland showed just how well the technology can scale. For the European Film Awards, more than 40 live streams were coming from different nominees around Europe, and all of them were displayed at the same time on two large LED video walls in the Berlin based studio.

“GlobalM provides the complete solution with CDN and SRT gateway, high quality, low latency live streaming from a smartphone or any compatible SRT device” says Lance Newhart, CEO of GlobalM. “Unlike other live streaming apps, GlobalM replaces satellite or fibre networks, it is easy to implement without engineering skills, and is cost effective for live streaming and file based content contribution”.

GlobalM is for media organizations, content creators, and curators who stream live in broadcast quality, and need content and remote production solutions. Visit us at http://globalm.media to learn more and book a demo.

CES 2021: A quick look into Samsung’s micro-LED & Neo QLED TVs

0

In the lead up to this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), 44 of Samsung Electronics’ latest products and services are awarded the prestigious Innovation Awards, including four Best of Innovation honours.

Among the recipients of the CES 2021 Innovation Awards, was the all new 110-inch MICRO LED, a breakthrough product that won the Best of Innovation award for its features that will offer users complete control over their space and their experiences.

The 110-inch MICRO LED aims to provide the ultimate visual experience. It features 24 million individually-controlled LEDs and a powerful MicroLed processor for stunning image quality. These micrometer-sized, self-illuminating, inorganic LEDs eliminate backlighting and color filters by virtue of producing light from their own pixel structures.

It is a 4K television with 8 million pixels. It accurately matches the color gamut of even the most advanced DSLR and mirrorless cameras, capable of expressing 100% of both DCI and AdobeRGB for extremely accurate brightness and color, along with amazing contrast and deep blacks.

Just like Samsung’s design ethos of its best camera phones, the MICRO LED 110” is almost completely bezel-free to fit in just about any room. With over 99.99% screen-to-body ratio and their Ambient Mode featuring three new exclusive pieces by new media artist Refik Anadol, Samsung’s TV blends into its surroundings effortlessly whether the display is on or off.

The Neo QLED TVs have replaced the QLED TVs of the past. The technology will be initiated on Samsung’s flagship TV Line for 8K (QN900A) and 4K (QN90A) models. Physically, the Neo QLED TV sets will have 1/40 smaller LEDs of the height of conventional LEDs which will allow for finer control, decreasing the problem blooming wherein light leaks from one LED to another.

Additionally, 8K Neo QLED TVs will also have premium audio features like “Object Tracking Sound (OTS) Pro” whose “dynamic sound corresponds to the movement of objects on the screen,” and “SpaceFit Sound,” which “analyses the installed TV’s physical environment and outputs immersive sound tailored specifically to your space.”

The new television sets are also equipped with Samsung Health Smart Trainer, which will allow the TV to analyse your exercise session with a webcam, and super ultra-wide aspect ratio (32:9) support.

Real Madrid planning a €200m bid for Kylian Mbappe this summer

It has been no secret that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been a long admirer of French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe. He is the next big thing in football after Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Hazard.

The PSG star has been among the top players for the last few years and has already achieved which others can only dream of. Mbappe admires current Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, being from the same country.

Zinedine Zidane also quite likes the Frenchman and wants him to sign for the biggest club in European football, Real Madrid.

Florentino Perez is currently planning for a €200m bid for Kylian Mbappe this summer. He wants Hazard and Mbappe to play side by side and make them one of the best teams in football.

Kylian Mbappe signed for PSG for a sum of €180m from AS Monaco in 2017. The Frenchman’s current contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in 2022 and the contract extension process has been put to hold till now. It seems Mbappe want to take his career to the next level.

Real Madrid’s revenue has dropped by 25% to €617m over the last two years so they are hoping to recoup between €100-150m by selling likes of Marcelo, Gareth Bale, Isco, Luka Jović, Dani Ceballos and Brahim Díaz in the summer.

Multiple reports claim that Real Madrid could even afford a €200m fee, which would be considered as €40m-a-year for a five-year contract on the club’s books. So Perez is doing everything he can to bring Mbappe to the Bernabeu and start a new era.
