Lionel Messi talks about Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman in his interview with La Sexta’s Jordi Evole

0

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola shares a special bond since their days together at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona had their golden days during Guardiola’s tenure. Messi was at his scintillating best under him. They won the continental treble together. Later, Messi once again won the continental treble under Luis Enrique.

Currently, Barcelona are going through a tumultuous time both on and off the pitch. They have been poor on the field and Barcelona is also facing financial problems. The presidential elections are also going to be held on 24th January. So manager Ronald Koeman is having a tough time to manage the team and the results.

Messi has now given an exclusive interview with La Sexta’s Jordi Evole. Here’s what he had to say about Guardiola, Enrique and Koeman:

Evole: Why do you always claim that Pep was the best coach you worked under?

Messi: His way of preparing games was exceptional and his way and the way of working that Luis Enrique worked too was excellent …. I was fortunate to work with both men.

Evole: Do you feel there is direction with Barcelona under Koeman?

Messi: Yes, it’s difficult for him as we’re in transition …. there are new players and young talent coming through so it’s difficult too.

Stay tuned we’ll be bringing in more exclusive conversations from the interview.

Lionel Messi opens up about the summer transfer request on his interview with La Sexta’s Jordi Evole

Lionel Messi was on the verge of leaving Barcelona in the summer but then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu refused to let him go and he eventually remained at Barcelona.

Bartomeu has now resigned and a new president will be elected on 24th January. The new president may have a huge role to play in Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona.

Messi has now given an exclusive interview with La Sexta’s Jordi Evole. Here’s what he had to say about his wish to leave Barcelona in the summer:

Evole: Would you send the burofax again if you had to?

Messi: Yes, it was a manner of making a point and expressing my feelings. It was me telling the club that I wanted to leave.

Evole: There were those who doubted your love for the club at the time…

Messi:  Yes, that bothered me … I felt I’d completed a cycle and it was time to leave the club that had given me so much. I wanted to win titles and battle for the Champions League and felt it was time for change. The president then started to filter this and that to paint a negative picture of me.

Messi: It was far from easy for me to say I wanted to leave the club and the city….the family wanted to stay here, this is their home but I genuinely felt it was time to go. Luis Suarez’s departure had nothing to do with the decision but I felt it was crazy the way his exit was handled and that Barcelona let him go to a direct rival.

Evole: How did you feel betrayed by Bartomeu?

Messi: I’d rather not comment on this now…it will come out in the future but there were plenty of things…

Evole: Were you advised by your legal team to stay?

Messi: No, although talking to them, they even conveyed the idea that we’d win a legal battle, but that was the last thing I wanted.

Dominik Szoboszlai recently secured a move to RB Leipzig from their sister club, RB Salzburg in Austria after enjoying a breakout season in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The player’s agent, Matyas Esterhazy joined Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio in conversation regarding the move on the pair’s Here We Go podcast on Patreon. When asked about the first time he saw Szoboszlai play, here is what Esterhazy had to say:

“I used to play football earlier, so I had a lot of teammates training and playing football, doing scouting when they were younger. Seeing Dominik was a very different feeling. Whether the potential will rise or not is something you never know and it is something that was visible right then and there.”

The Hungarian is touted as one of the players for the future, and will almost certainly end up making an impact at Leipzig. The journalists also predicted a lot more discussions regarding Szoboszlai’s future on the podcast, meaning that there could be big things in store for the youngster.

For now, his job at hand is learning and developing under one of the most prolific young coaches in the world by the name of Julian Nagelsmann, and it is no doubt that he will be watched closely not only by fans but also by the bigger clubs.

EXCLUSIVE: Dominik Szoboszlai’s agent talks about choosing Leipzig and why it was right for the player

0

The entire year of 2020 was filled with rumours for Szoboszlai, formerly of RB Salzburg. Leipzig’s interest in the player, according to his agent, Matyas Esterhazy, is not new. (According to Esterhazy himself; Here We Go podcast hosted by Fabrizio Romano on Patreon)

The whole project and the coach was decisive in making the decision for the agent and the player. Progressive talks with management of Leipzig were held shortly after a principle agreement, and then they decided to close the deal. In the end it was a relatively easy decision.

Why RB Leipzig is perfect for Szoboszlai?

Lot of factors, for them, they only wanted him to be able to adapt as soon as possible. The motivation of squad and club matches Dominik’s was one of the main deal breakers in making the decision.

Leipzig is offering an exciting project for the young players, and the young squad and coach, Julian Nagelsmann were the important factors in making the deal.

For a young player, the coach is the most important variable in their career going forward. The way Nagelsmann plays and uses his midfielders is very good for Dominik and there is a great learning as well as a clear cut strategy and security at the club.

The settlement process is much easier at Leipzig and is very important for a top young talent so it is clear why he chose Germany.

Werner slump attracting Fernando Torres comparisons

0

Big things were expected from Timo Werner when Chelsea signed him amidst competition from Liverpool and the Manchester clubs. However, the move has not completely gone according to plan.

Coming off the back of a season that saw him compete with Robert Lewandowski in an extremely close competition for the top scorer award in the Bundesliga, the 24-year-old was expected to have an instant impact at the club, and while the German initially found the back of the net occasionally, the last few games have seen Werner hit the worst goal drought of his career.

All that said, it must be considered that the current campaign is the German’s first year in England, and it can be daunting to be away from home. Furthermore, the quality of the Premier League is something that few others can match, and it seems like the new environment will take a little bit of time to get fully used to for Werner.

The player was taken off at half-time during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat against Arsenal, and the comparisons to Fernando Torres as a ‘flop’ have already started.

While there are mixed opinions regarding El Nino’s time at Chelsea, it must be kept in mind that Werner is only 24 and that it will take a bit of time to get used to the difficulty and the change in style.

Even during his tenure at Chelsea, Torres managed to score some very important goals for the club whilst also winning their only Champions League trophy till date in 2012.
