Amazon is purchasing, rather than its usual leasing, 11 used Boeing 767-300 planes. This is the first time the online retail giant has purchased an aircraft for its fast-growing air cargo operation, the company announced on Tuesday.
Amazon is buying seven aircraft from Delta Air Lines Inc. and four from WestJet Airlines Ltd. Currently; the WestJet aircraft are under conversion from passenger to cargo use. This year, they will join Amazon’s fleet. At the same time, the Delta jets will start flying routes in 2022. More than 85 planes are expected to be in service for Amazon by the end of next year, a spokesperson said.
In recent years, American E-Commerce giant, Amazon, has rapidly expanded its air cargo operations to speed up the delivery of packages to customers and supplement capacity from carriers such as United Parcel Service (UPS).
With tens of thousands of cargo vans, Amazon has built up its own delivery operation. Still, the Seattle-based company has gone out of its way to highlight its continued reliance on other cargo companies. However, Amazon already has emerged as a competitor to partners that only a few years ago delivered almost all of its goods, as it handles most of its own deliveries. FedEx refused to renew its air-delivery contract with Amazon in 2019.
Amazon’s fleet is reportedly likely to grow to 200 aircraft in the coming years, rivalling UPS in size. According to Bloomberg, “Amazon operates mostly from smaller, regional airports close to its warehouses, routing packages between locations to accommodate quick delivery.”
The deals announced on Tuesday marks the second time Amazon has moved while taking advantage of the depressed market for aircraft since the Covid-19 pandemic crippled air travel and sent many aircraft into storage. Amazon announced it was leasing an additional 12 planes in June and as with the leased planes, the newly purchased aircraft will be operated by contractors.
“Our goal is to continue delivering for customers across the U.S. in the way that they expect from Amazon, and purchasing our own aircraft is a natural next step toward that goal,” Sarah Rhoads, the vice president who runs Amazon’s air fleet, said in a statement. “Having a mix of both leased and owned aircraft in our growing fleet allows us to manage better our operations, which in turn helps us to keep pace in meeting our customer promises.”
Dell is seemingly obsessed with upgrading its latitude series for the major IT event of 2021. Dell Latitude 9410 2-in-1 was launched last year and it seems that this year the OEM has decided to upgrade the series with new features to meet the current market demand.

The new workstation will come with up to 64 cores and up to 4.0 GHz of processing power which will offer a dual-CPU experience in a single processor system. Lenovo claims that its new machine is the first and only PCIe Gen 4 workstation available in the market today, and it includes support for up to two NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 or four RTX 4000 graphics cards, up to 20TB storage, and expandable memory up to 1TB.

Security researchers have found that Juspay, an Indian e-money transaction company, has had a server breach. Sensitive data of over 100 million debit and credit card users have been leaked on the dark web.
Reportedly, the data of the cardholders leaked on the dark web includes full names, phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the first and last four digits of their cards. The Bangalore-based company, which offers payment processing services for e-merchants like Amazon and Swiggy, has also acknowledged that in August 2020 also data of some of its users was compromised.
It was found that between March 2017 and August 2020 the breach and data leak took place. According to a report by Gadgets360, the data found on the dark web included “personal details of several Indian cardholders along with their card expiry dates, customer IDs, and masked card numbers with the first and last four digits of the cards fully visible”. Notably, though, the leaked data did not include transaction and order details.
Another report by Inc42 reveals that the leaked data on the dark web includes “user’s card brand (VISA/Mastercard), card expiry date, the last four digits of the card, the masked card number, the type of card (credit/debit), the name on the card, card fingerprint, card ISIN, customer ID, and merchant account ID, among several other details. In all, over 16 fields of data relating to their payment cards have been leaked for at least 2 crore users, as conceded by Juspay, a subset of the total number of user records (10 crores) that have been leaked.” Another subset of data which included the phone numbers and email addresses of users was leaked, reportedly.

Even though it was found that the leaked information reveals only partial copies of card numbers, phishing scams can be on the rise due to the breach. The dark web is being used as a market for selling the leaked data for an undisclosed amount.
“On 18 August 2020, an unauthorised attempt on our servers was detected and terminated when in progress. No card numbers, financial credentials or transaction data were compromised. Some data records containing non-anonymised, plain-text email and phone numbers were compromised, which form a fraction of the 10 crore data records,” Juspay founder Vimal Kumar said, according to First Post. “The masked card data (which is not sensitive) has 2 Cr user records. Our card vault, in a different PCI-compliant system with encrypted card data, was never accessed,” he added.
