Recently, AMD launched its powerful Ryzen 4000 mobile processors for laptops based on its revolutionary 7nm based Zen 2 architecture. The Red team announced that the new Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 would be one of the first laptops to feature the Ryzen APUs with up to 8 cores on an ultra-thin form factor.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 has been launched at the CES 2020 is a 14-inch FreeSync display notebook featuring a 1920×1080 IPS display. It is powered with up to the flagship 8 core/ 16 threads monster – the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U which is clocked up to 1.8GHz base clock speed and a 4.2GHz boost along with 12MB of the total cache.

The Ryzen 4000 APUs consume only 15W of TDP and the flagship Ryzen 7 4800U features 8 compute units of the Vega graphics clocked up to 1750MHz. The laptop is coupled with up to 16 GB of LPDDR4X memory and up to a 1 TB NVMe SSD.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 series will be available with Intel CPUs as well, featuring up to 10th Gen Intel Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7 CPU, you can opt for optional NVIDIA MX GPU as well for the Intel laptops which is not needed if you are going with an AMD variant.

AMD at the keynote showed that the new iGPU provides +28% better GPU performance in 3D Mark Time Spy against Intel’s Core i7-1065G7. When compared in the single-threaded performance, the Ryzen 4000 processors dominate over both Ice Lake and Comet Lake.

Talking about the pricing, Lenovo states that the AMD variants have a starting pricing of $699 even though they have not disclosed the exact processor/memory/storage configuration. Samsung has not specified the actual processor yet but according to the leaks all around we can say that the Note 10 Lite is going to feature the Exynos 9810. Some leaks also suggest that the Note 10 might pack in a Snapdragon processor. Samsung has revealed that the processor will be of 10nm and this 10nm SoC comes with 8GB of RAM.

Now we are coming to the camera department where the camera setup housed inside a squarish module of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite. The main camera is of 12MP sensors with Dual Pixel autofocus, an f/1.7 lens, and OIS accompanied by a 12MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture and OIS for stabilization. On the front, there is a punch hole that accommodates a 32MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture to take care of selfies and video calls.

Last month, AMD launched the Radeon RX 5500 XT which was launched for budget gaming enthusiasts and to replace its old RX 500 series GPUs. Its previous Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT provides exceptional 1440p gaming performance.

Now at CES 2020, AMD has introduced the new Radeon RX 5600 XT for enhanced 1080p gaming performance, simply bridging the gap between the RX 5500 XT and the RX 5700 GPUs. Also with the RX 5600 XT, AMD now can compete with NVIDIA’s GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1660 Ti as well.

The RX 5600 XT is a healthy upgrade over the RX 5500 XT or rather a cut down version of the RX 5700. This graphics card is based out of the new Navi 10 based on AMD’s RDNA architecture focused to deliver killer 1080p performance between 90 and 120FPS. 

Considering the immense value-for-money performance that the GTX 1650 Super gives you, the Radeon RX 5500 XT fell out of the competition due to the underwhelming performance that this Navi 14 GPU gives. This situation forced AMD to launch the new Navi 10 based Radeon RX 5600 XT.

AMD has even retained Navi 10’s 64 ROPs with this GPU, the RX 5600 XT features 36 compute units along with the same 2,304 stream processors seen in the Radeon RX 5700, but we see slower clock speeds with the base clock being 1,375MHz and 1,560MHz boost.

The GPU packs 6GB of GDDR6 memory, instead of the RX 5700’s 8GB. Altogether AMD says the new card is capable of delivering up to 7.19 teraflops of throughput, whereas the RX 5700 which is a bit higher at delivers 7.95TFLOPS of throughput.

The RX 5600 XT features 12Gbps GDDR6 memory instead of the 14Gbps chips found on the RX 5700/5500 ones. The GPU has 192-bit memory bus, which 1/4th of Navi 10’s MC/L2 partitions have been disabled. This results in 36% lesser memory bandwidth than the RX 5700, available at 288GB/sec speed.

On the performance front, AMD has compared the RX 5600 XT against the NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1660 series and their older GTX 1060 cards. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the GTX 1060 currently scores around 57 FPS in 1080p with ultra quality settings, while the RX 5600 XT delivers 92 FPS.

This is the same case in 1080p performance in games like The Division 2, Gears of War 5 and The Witcher 3. Where NVIDIA’s old card struggles to reach around 60FPS, AMD’s new GPU delivers around 90FPS in triple-A games. On the other hand, in eSports gaming, the new card delivers over 125+ frame rates.

When compared with the latest NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super OC, AMD’s Radeon RX 5600 XT gives you an edge over the NVIDIA GPU. The Navi GPU gives you 15% more performance on an average in triple-A gaming titles and up to 5% more performance in eSports titles.

As we saw in my previous article, AMD has just nailed it in the mobile SoC market this 2020 and made a healthy start to the year. Not only have they targeted the ultra-thin notebooks and other laptops, but AMD also is not leaving Intel on the gaming CPU front.

Previously we had some leaks regarding the Ryzen 7 4800H and today all the leaks are clarified and we get what we had expected – an 8 core / 16 thread monster mobile processor. These gaming CPUs provide exceptional performance increase than last-gen and are also based on the revolutionary Zen 2 architecture.

Named as the H series of Ryzen 4000 mobile processors, these APUs have a TDP envelope of 45W which is quite sustainable for a gaming laptop. AMD said the processors have a turbo window up to 54W while performing in high-end workloads and gaming.

If we take a glance at the processors we see 3 of them and 2 of them will be available right away and the third one i.e. the Ryzen 7 4800HS will be ASUS exclusive for the first six months.

The top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 4800H features a base clock of 2.9GHz and a boost of 4.2GHz along with 12MB cache. We see 7CUs of Vega graphics with 1600MHz which is lower than we saw in the Ryzen 7 4800U. The higher TDP helps the SoC to provide higher base clock frequency of 2.9GHz.

In the coming months, we can expect the Ryzen 9 product stack as well with a fully enabled IGP as well as a small bump in graphics frequency. Interestingly the Ryzen 7 4800HS, which is the ASUS-exclusive is said to be made by ASUS and AMD together helping to deliver the full 45W performance and frequency but in a 35W envelope.

The Ryzen 4000H series will directly compete against Intel’s top-of-the-line Intel H-series CPUs, whose current flagship is the flagship Core i9 9980HK. AMD even said that the new Ryzen gaming chips can beat the Core i9 9980HK in most areas, single-threaded, multithreaded, and on integrated graphics as well.

AMD has also introduced a new feature called AMD SmartShift exclusively for its H-series Ryzen 4000 processors which is a power delivery mechanism. As the laptop manufacturers will be using the APU as well as a discrete GPU, SmartShift will automatically adjust the power budget between the CPU and the discrete GPU for the max power budget allocated for the laptop.

In terms of real-world performance and benchmarks this feature can manually be turned on/off, AMD says this delivers 10% better framerates in The Division 2, and 12% faster Cinebench R20 NT. 

Overall, these new powerful 7nm processors can deliver great performance and finally we can get almost desktop-like performance in a mobile form factor, thanks to AMD. We will see the Ryzen 4000H processors in laptops in the Q1 of 2020 itself, just can’t wait to test them!

AMD raises the game with its 7nm based Ryzen 4000 mobile SKUs: up to 8C/16T, 4.2GHz boost, 1750MHz graphics frequency

The Red team has made a bold start to the CES 2020 by announcing its new top of the line AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors. AMD never did really dominate Intel in the laptop market but did really made an impact with its cheaper Mobil processors.

In 2019, AMD blew Intel in the desktop CPU market with its Ryzen 3000 processors. Last year in CES, AMD only gave a demo of its Ryzen 3000 processors and when in July they actually launched in the market, gamers to productivity focussed people, everyone just shifted to Ryzen.

With Zen 2 not only did AMD increased its multithreading performance but also made a significant improvement in single-core performance, which eventually allowed gamers to utilize the chips to the full potential.

Receiving such an overwhelming response from people, AMD this year started by bringing the 7nm goodness to mobile. During AMD’s keynote, Dr Lisa Su said that the laptop industry never did really experience a bump in performance, which I totally agree.

Intel faced a hard time in upgrading its CPUs to 10nm which they did a year ago for mobile processors but they are eventually high priced and limited up to 4 cores only.

This situation is much more appropriate for AMD to announce the next-gen Mobile processor’s based 7nm platform. At CES 2020, AMD has given a positive start to the computing industry.

AMD Ryzen 4000U Mobile Processors

The new processors are typically designed for laptops to perform significantly more than last-gen under the 15W envelope. The Ryzen 4000U series APUs form the 3rd generation of laptop processors, its basically a fully integrated monolithic piece of 7nm silicon, featuring up to 8 Zen 2 cores and up to 8 compute units of enhanced Vega graphics.

We see 2x more cores from last-gen but 3 fewer compute units, this is because the newer and enhanced Vega graphics based out of the 7nm die can perform even better than 11 CUs. We see a huge increase in clock speeds both on the CPU front as well as on the iGPU side.\

AMD is following the same CCX layout as present on its desktop CPUs which suggests that the 8 cores are split into two CCX units which can communicate over AMD’s Infinity fabric. We also see that the Red team has adjusted the L3 cache amount to 4 MB per CCX unit i.e. half as that of its desktop line.

If we look through the stack we can see the Ryzen 7 4800U with 8 cores and 16 threads, that too on a laptop!! This is truly insane, keeping in mind it only consumes 15W of TDP and it has also a powerful iGPU. The Ryzen 7 4800U has a 1.8GHz base clock speed and a 4.2GHz boost along with 12MB of the total cache.

We see 8 Compute units of Vega graphics clocked at a higher frequency of 1750MHz which is just awesome considering the fact that it is targetted for ultra-thin notebooks and laptops. Even the Ryzen 3 has now got 4 cores and the Ryzen 5 features 6 cores, now consumers get way more options to choose from than Intel.

Talking about efficiency, AMD says these new chips are 30% more efficient from the last-gen because of the new SoC design and 70% more efficient in the process compared to the previous processors. Overall the SoC power for the same frequency of the APU is down by 20%, which allows AMD to push more out of the hardware.

AMD promises to provide more battery life than ever on ultra-thin notebooks, thanks to its new design & improvements and the 7nm process. Overall, the Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors are very impressive and I cannot wait to get 8 cores on a laptop!

EA Sports have revealed the FIFA 20 Team Of The Year (TOTY)

The EA Sports FIFA 20 Team Of The Year has been revealed on 6th January.

This is the first time ever that the FIFA 20 Team Of The Year (TOTY) was chosen by fans who gave their votes online. The FIFA 20 TOTY has been announced on 6th January by EA Sports.

2019 Champions League winner Liverpool have 5 players in the TOTY. The defensive line comprises all Liverpool players with the only exception of Matthijs De Ligt. Alisson guards the goal while Robertson, Van Dijk and Alexander Arnold form the other back four. Liverpool forward Mane forms the attacking trio with Mbappe and Messi.

The biggest shock of this year’s TOTY is the exclusion of Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the first time since 2011 that Ronaldo hasn’t made the TOTY squad. There are other big names too like Salah and Lewandowski who haven’t made the TOTY squad either.

The 12th TOTY player vote has also started today. Login to FUT, and claim your 5 nominee Player Pick and select the player you think deserves to win.

There’s still a chance for the big names of Ronaldo, Salah and Lewandowski to make the TOTY squad as the 12th player.
