LG Innotek introduces the world’s first Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module at CES 2023

0

Innovation is at its peak and the point of a showcase for all such things is CES, so, LG Innotek introduced the world’s first product ‘Optical Telephoto Zoom Camera Module (hereafter referred to as the Optical Zoom Camera)’ will be revealed for the first time in the world on the world’s largest IT and home appliances exhibition of ‘Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023‘.

While smartphones have been at the forefront and their cameras have kept improving with time but optical zoom camera has reached its peak and we haven’t seen much innovation off late. The only major smartphone that has an astounding optical zoom is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with 100x zoom.

Now, this Optical telephoto zoom camera module introduced by LG is a micro-component developed for the smartphone by integrating the telescopic camera functions that were mostly applied to professional cameras such as DSLR or mirrorless cameras. As you mount it on the rear side of the smartphone, it will enable the image and video to be taken without image quality degradation even when zooming from a long distance.

Interesting isn’t it? LG Innotek has also received the ‘CES 2023 Innovation Award’ recently with the optical telephoto zoom camera module. So, by applying LG Innotek’s ‘optical telephoto zoom camera module’ to the smartphone, optical zoom filming is possible in the high-magnification of 4~9 times section.

If you are fascinated and want to know when you can see this module getting implemented on the upcoming smartphones, well, you will be happy to know that LG Innotek and Qualcomm Technologies are working closely to optimize software for an optical continuous zoom that will be applied to the new premium Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform.

It will enhance the image tuning custom for the optics, which includes Auto-Focus, Auto-Exposure, Auto-White Balance, lens shading correction and much more. Users will be able to focus quickly. And the photos and videos will have stunning image quality.

Starting with the release of products at CES 2023, which will be held next month, LG Innotek and Qualcomm Technologies plan to speed up joint promotions for global smartphone manufacturers.

The CEO Jeong Cheol-dong mentioned that “Smartphone cameras will be evolved into the direction of enhancing the performance of optical zoom centrally on the premium smartphones”, and added, “As the global leading smartphone camera module company, LG Innotek will be one step ahead in introducing innovative products that provide a pleasant experience and good impression to the customers, and innovation will be provided continuously for customer value”.

TSMC Revenue hit by 15% due to Order Slowdown

0

If recent Taiwan press sources are correct, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will have a difficult couple of quarters. TSMC will hold a rare event in Taiwan to commemorate the opening of its new facility in Nan-ke, Taiwan. The business seldom hosts such events, but industry sources believe that this time the gathering is in response to criticism in Taiwan concerning a new plant that TSMC has opened in the United States.

Furthermore, TSMC’s main competitor in contract semiconductor manufacturing, Samsung Foundry, jumped the gun earlier this year when it announced 3-nanometer production in Korea after experiencing quality issues with its previous manufacturing technology.

The semiconductor sector had a difficult year in 2022, as global macroeconomic uncertainty and rising prices disrupted consumer spending power just as world economies were recovering from a two-year coronavirus epidemic. While the epidemic boosted demand for electronics owing to lockdowns, 2022 came as a surprise because companies like AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA were unable to predict the number of their order declines this year.

According to the Taiwanese tabloid DigiTimes, TSMC’s sales could decline by a painful 15% sequentially in the first quarter of next year.

A downturn in the first quarter of 2023 is not unexpected, as TSMC CEO Dr. C.C. Wei stated during the company’s third-quarter earnings conference. During the occasion, he stated that an order slowdown will occur in Q1, and that his company had decreased capital spending in response.

TSMC
TSMC’s shares have dropped by 42% this year after recovering some of their losses over the past few weeks.

And for the inventory correction in 2023, all we want to say is like that. We expect probably 2023, the semiconductor industry will likely to decline. But TSMC also is not immune, but we believe our technology position, strong portfolio in HPC and longer-term strategic relationship with customer will enable our business to be more resilient than the overall semiconductor industry. And that’s why we say in 2023, still a growth year for TSMC and the overall industry probably will decline.

DigiTimes also provides information on TSMC’s usage rate, and the results aren’t promising. In the chip industry, utilisation refers to the percentage of machines that are operational and producing chips. According to the newspaper, the 7-nanometer and 6-nanometer manufacturing technologies would suffer a 50% decline in use next year. These are established methods used by companies such as AMD for their goods.

Furthermore, while TSMC’s 5-nanometer process has escaped largely undamaged, it will be affected next year. DigiTimes reports that TSMC is working with its customers to allow long-term commitments and contract renewals in order to manage order drops. Right now, semiconductor companies have a lot of inventory because they built it up in response to shortages during the pandemic.

However, due to inflation, the orders that were used to construct these inventory stockpiles did not materialise, and as a result, it will be some time before the situation stabilises and enterprises begin increasing their stocks again. Estimates from the industry imply that rebuilding could begin in the second part of next year, although this will be dependent on the overall macroeconomic outlook.

Vir Das Landing: Everything We Need to Know about the Vir Das’ New Stand-Up Special

Vir Das Landing is a  funny and light-hearted reality how. Vir Das has continued to prove that he’s at his earnest best just not while he brings the laughter, but when it stops. He admits, he may not always make you laugh, but he sure can make you think and feel.

The stand-up special is definitely one the pleasant and breezy as it is, the majority of the hour-long Landing is an uneven ride.

As we have come to the end of 2022, Vir Das’s stand-up special drops on Netflix. The title Landing marks the comedian’s fifth on the global streaming platform.

Vir

The landing was filmed in a large theatre in New York, which says a lot about how far Vir has come as India’s most popular comedy export. It made me think back to his first Netflix special, Abroad Understanding, which intercuts between a small New York comedy club and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium.

The Landing starts with a barrage of bits to warm up the audience, which suggests this time the personal and perspective may well take a backseat to try to make us laugh. It can feel it in the editing too, with constant cutting that doesn’t  allow the moment to play out and just be

The show has also boosted the expectation as Vir, things get real. Landing is bookended with the tale of his unnerving Air India flight from Newyork to Mumbai, where he is convinced to be arrested as soon as he lands.

The majority of the time it is an uneven ride, where Vir’s brand of funny and feeling seem out of sync with each other.  The landing show boosts up the excitement of Vir, wit, and charm and feels low on the disarmingly moving storytelling and vulnerability we’ve come to associate with him.

In this, you can get a number of classic Vir Das bits that soar, with a bit about why the microphone is one of the single most influential inventions of all time, and how it can, and does. There will be one thing it can transform the world for better or worse, every day. Similarly, his takedown of the NRI mentality. “Conservative India lives abroad,” he says to an Indian-American audience member, adding, “Your parents’ version of India doesn’t exist… never lecture us from abroad about what it means to be Indian”. Vir’s specials have always got a huge response in his ongoing examination which means to be Indian and the idea of India, from within and overseas.

At the last and final touch of Landing,  the special becomes alive and real, deeply drawing a portrait of an artist, who sincerely believed it was all over for him. An artist speaking to the audience he thought he’d never see again and perform for. “I never thought I’d see you again… If I’ve ever created a world, where I don’t get to touch a microphone, I have zero interest in that world,” he says.

Vir Das remains an artist and comedian I will keep coming back to, not because of how he makes me laugh, but because of how he breaks my heart in the most rewarding way.

Vir Das: Landing: Release Date

Vir Das: Landing is already streaming on Netflix since 25th December 2022.
