ISL’s top forward passers 22/23: Stats revealed

The ISL 22/23 season is in its final stages now, with the playoffs set to begin soon. In this article, we will take a look at the ISL’s top forward passers based on the numbers. 

Forward passes are key for midfielders to turn defensive actions into attacking actions. However, not all of them are able to pick out teammates to build a meaningful attack from. Some have a better profile in their defensive actions, while others can break opposition lines and conjure offensive plays from nothing. 

ISL’s top forward passers 22/23: Who makes the list? 

Odisha FC‘s Saul Crespo has the most forward passes compared to the number of passes played per 90. The Spaniard plays 45% of passes forward on an average.

Ahmed Jahouh of Mumbai City FC leads the latter metric, and is second in terms of being the ISL’s top forward passers, with 43% of his passes leading to attacks. The Islanders won the league once again this time, and he had a significant part to play in their success. 

In terms of players who don’t play as many passes per 90, Odisha’s Thoiba Singh Moirangthem and Pronay Halder are in the 43-44% region. While Odisha made the playoffs, Jamshedpur fell from grace from their title-winning campaign to finish second last.

FIFA’s The Best Awards were voted on by coaches, national team captains and renowned journalist from all over the world. And this included India’s men’s and women’s football teams. 

Marcus Mergulhao, one of the most trusted journalists of the country, was given the honour of voting in the women’s category. Dhiman Sarkar, on the other hand, was chosen to vote in the men’s category. 

India men’s head coach Igor Stimac and captain Sunil Chhetri were obliged to vote. Women’s team head coach Thomas Dennerby and captain Ashalata Loitongbam also cast votes in their respective categories.

WPL Opening Ceremony : The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to kick-off on March 4th, 2023 with a grand opening ceremony at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned a magnificent event to celebrate the start of the WPL 2023 season. The WPL opening ceremony is scheduled to take place before the match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.

Here’s what you need to know about the WPL Opening Ceremony:

  1. Star-Studded Event: The WPL opening ceremony will see some of the biggest names from Bollywood gracing the occasion. Ashleigh Gardner of Australia and Natalie Sciver of England attracted the highest bidding among the overseas players and were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for INR 3.20 crore each. Shafali Verma, the captain of the Indian women’s T20 team, was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2.50 crore.

While overall car sales fell by about 0.5 percent last year, SUV sales increased by 3 percent. They accounted for 46 percent of global automobile sales. According to a recent International Energy Agency analysis, carbon dioxide emissions from SUVs around the world are on the verge of exceeding an enormous threshold: nearly 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually (IEA).

For comparison, that is nearly twice as much climate pollution as the UK emitted in 2021. While non-SUV passenger car oil demand remained flat between 2021 and 2022, global SUV oil consumption increased by 500,000 barrels per day.

EVs still emit particle pollution from tyre, brake, and roadway wear and tear, which is extremely harmful to air quality. This type of pollution is more prevalent in heavier vehicles.
