Nvidia is planning to re-brand its canceled GeForce RTX 4080 12GB as GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

0

According to a reputable leaker with a solid track record, Nvidia will rebrand the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics card it canceled as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The decision was sensible, but it is currently unknown when exactly this Ada Lovelace device will be available for purchase, how much it will cost, and how it compares to other graphics cards.

This past September, Nvidia officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, a somewhat peculiar graphics card. The AD104 from Nvidia was installed on the board in its complete configuration, which included 7680 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory interface. Despite having the same model number as the RTX 4080 16GB, it performed roughly 30% worse in benchmark tests than the latter.

Nvidia canceled the 4080 12GB after receiving harsh criticism from the community but withheld information on what would become of the fully functional AD104 GPU. According to @kopite7kimi, a reliable source of information, the item will now reportedly be known as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. But since he’s not a reliable source, you should probably season his facts with a little salt and pepper.

The RTX 4070 Ti appears to be a fitting moniker for a product made possible by the AD104 in all its splendor, but it is still unclear when Nvidia will release it.

Normally, Ti-class goods come after plain vanilla graphics cards as a refresh, however, Nvidia has occasionally released Ti and non-Ti parts simultaneously (RTX 2080 Ti and 2080; RTX 3060 Ti). The Ti components typically follow later (for example, the 1080 Ti, 1070 Ti, 3090 Ti, 3080 Ti, and 3070 Ti).

RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070 could launch at the same time, or at least close to it, depending on what Nvidia decides to do. However, as we can see from the 4080 12 GB cancellation, Nvidia’s plans are not entirely predictable.

The stock GeForce RTX 4070 is probably not going to utilize the entire AD104 GPU, and there are reports that it might even include 10GB of memory with a 160-bit interface. Performance-wise, such a product ought to easily surpass Nvidia’s RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti, and it probably will match or perhaps surpass the RTX 3080-series products in its wake, but that would call for some inventive benchmarking (i.e., DLSS3).

While the RTX 4080 12GB was intended for release this year, the rebadged RTX 4070 Ti is unknown, and it’s widely believed that the RTX 4070 won’t be available until January 2023. The business might rush the release of its RTX 4070, or it might just release the Ti variant first and the vanilla model later. Both options have advantages and disadvantages.

Nvidia will be able to achieve its sales and average selling prices (ASPs) targets that it established when it unveiled the RTX 4080 12GB by releasing a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti variant for $899 this year and keeping the regular RTX 4070 model under wraps. But given the upcoming AMD RX 7900 XT, which will ship on December 13 and is similarly $899 in price but has ostensibly much higher specifications than the AD104, we can’t help but believe the RTX 4070 Ti will have to be less expensive.

Alternately, Nvidia might undercut AMD’s pricing by releasing the vanilla RTX 4070 before the Ti model while still having the opportunity for a higher-tier product. Naturally, such a component’s MSRP will be considerably less than $899, which will result in lower ASPs for Nvidia.

Apple assists Chines Chipmaker YMTC to increase its Workforce

0

There are a few exceptions to the general rule that Chinese chipmakers find it difficult to successfully compete with established competitors. The most well-known manufacturer of 3D NAND memory is YMTC (Yangtze Memory Technology Co.), which effectively competes with products from reputable manufacturers. But according to The New York Times, YMTC gained assistance from an unlikely ally, Apple, to become competitive.

According to the NYT piece, which cites three persons with knowledge of the situation, Apple helped YMTC hire experts from reputable Western corporations to increase its yields and productivity. Both Apple and YMTC have yet to confirm or deny the reports, even though the California-based consumer electronics giant is well known for assisting its manufacturing partners in expanding their businesses.

The 3D NAND devices from YMTC make use of their proprietary Xtacking architecture. This is made up of two distinct wafers that are joined together to create extremely dense and extremely quick flash memory components, which can power the greatest SSDs.

With Stacking, the most effective 3D NAND process technique that YMTC can build is employed to produce NAND memory arrays on a single wafer.

The company’s most effective logic process technique is then used to create various peripheral logic on a second wafer. The resulting NAND can combine ultra-dense memory arrays with a quick interface to provide the best of both worlds: memory arrays and logic coupled utilizing metal TSVs (through silicon vias).

It is more difficult for YMTC’s competitors to push their interface speeds to the maximum because they manufacture memory arrays and peripheral circuitry on the same wafer. Client-grade PCIe 5.0 x4 SSD performance is consequently limited.

It is more difficult to manufacture memory using conventional techniques used by Kioxia and Western Digital, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron than it is to manufacture 3D NAND the way YMTC does. According to media sources, YMTC’s 3D NAND had low yields and a lengthy ramp-up; hence, it appears that Apple assisted the Chinese companies in hiring experts from respected manufacturers to address these problems.

Apple, which utilizes 3D NAND in the great majority of its products, should diversify its supply to benefit from lower prices from different suppliers. By assisting YMTC to increase manufacturing, more 3D NAND products will be available at more affordable costs. Meanwhile, it appears that Apple no longer plans to employ YMTC’s 3D NAND, even for its devices intended to be sold in China, as a result of the U.S. administration’s strong penalties against the Chinese semiconductor and supercomputer sectors.

After being added to the Unverified List by the U.S. Department of Commerce in early October, YMTC gained significant public recognition. Entities whose bona fides (end users) could not be “satisfactorily recognized for reasons without the U.S. Government’s control” are included in the U.S. DoC’s UVL. The DoC may add the company to its list of entities if YMTC is unable to demonstrate to it within 60 days of inclusion in the list that its memory is not utilized by the Chinese military or security forces. To do so, American businesses would have to get a unique export license before they could sell their goods to YMTC.

Apple: Pegatron to start the Mass Production of the Company’s Mixed-Reality Headset in March 2023

0

According to DigiTimes, Apple is continuing to work on the creation of its mixed-reality headset with Pegatron likely to be the sole partner for final assembly. According to the report’s forecast, mass production of the headset is projected to start in March 2023, with an unveiling possibly taking place the following month, based on its current status in the manufacturing validation process.

Industry sources stated this XR headset mainly targets the commercial markets. The price is higher and the shipment quantity is limited. Previous estimates said that the annual shipment for this device would reach 2.5 million units. However, right now, rough estimates placed the annual shipment at around 0.7 to 0.8 million units. For supply chain manufacturers that benefit from quantity, this is not a particularly profitable order.

Despite the initial headset’s low profitability, Apple’s manufacturing partners are reportedly prepared to collaborate with the company on the project to demonstrate their technical prowess and position themselves for future AR/VR goods. Because of how well-known Apple is, it is also simpler for businesses to raise financing on the financial markets to finance their operations.

Apple has encountered various development challenges that have hampered its progress in augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality headsets over the years.

Earlier speculations claimed that Apple might unveil the headset at some time in 2022, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in June that the company would most likely aim for a January 2023 launch.

Considering that Kuo predicted that shipments would start by WWDC in June and that pre-orders would not start until the second quarter of 2023, today’s news from DigiTimes may not deviate greatly from Kuo’s.

Because of this, Kuo and DigiTimes appear to be citing comparable timelines for mass production, with the differences in anticipated introduction dates (January for Kuo and April for DigiTimes) resulting from Apple’s preference for how much lead time to give developers before the headset starts shipping.

0

Ozone Secutech, a leading Indian brand in the home security space; with products like Digital Locks and Safes brand under Ozone Group, has launched an innovative integration at the Men’s T20 World Cup this year to commence the third edition of its successful #AbChalegiFingerKey campaign. The campaign intends to build a correlation with the match umpire who raises a finger after falling off a wicket and further resonates with the brand’s narrative around the power of a finger. The campaign is strategically designed to drive relevance and increase the visibility of the brand amongst its customer base, as well as highlight the safety products that the brand has to offer.

The current campaign acts as a sequel to the previous version of the Guccha Singh campaign, which urges people to move from a ‘Chabiyoun ka Guccha’ (a bunch of keys) to the new age digital locks with multiple access mode that gives unmatched security with utmost ease.

The second phase of the campaign was tailored to the election season, with the campaign creating an interesting correlation of the power of the finger both in terms of providing security to your home as well as your nation with your right to vote. With the current excitement and fervour around the cricket season, the brand aims to strike a chord with the power of the umpire’s finger during T20 World Cup matches and that of the consumers to safeguard their homes using Ozone’s integrated home security systems that are equipped with IoT and deliver convenience, ease of usage and cost-effectiveness to its consumers.

Ozone Secutech launches third phase of #AbChalegiFingerKey campaign with Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

As a homegrown brand, we know what Indians connect best with–and their affinity towards cricket. Hence, the T20 World Cup was the perfect occasion to create visibility for our brand.”

“Our security systems are enhanced with cutting edge technologies that promise best-in-class safety to your homes. The #AbChalegiFingerKey campaign aims to educate our customers that securing their valuables and homes is just a finger’s touch away, much like the umpire’s power to control the match with his finger. The success of the earlier phases of the campaign is testament to the fact that we understand Indian sentiments better than anyone else”, he added.

The campaign has been ideated in-house by the Ozone team and will be live via aston bands in all matches scheduled between 23rd October to 13th November 2022. The #AbChalegiFingerKey campaign will also be visible pan India level for viewers watching the match on Hotstar (TV, mobile, and laptop).

Apple AirPods 2 estimated to touch 20 Million Units Shipment till Q4 2022

0

Only a few months have gone since Apple unveiled the AirPods Pro 2, and one analyst predicts that sales of this model, with 20 million units expected to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2022, will boost the company’s revenue.

The AirPods Pro 2’s predicted shipment statistics were provided by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who anticipated that Apple’s premium audio product would gain significant market momentum; however, it now appears that production has been significantly slowed. A supply chain agreement would have been made between the IT giant and Goertek and Luxshare back in 2019, but for an unspecified reason, Goertek has stopped production.

AirPods Pro 2, according to Kuo’s tweet, the supplier has halted production of an audio device.

The expert thinks that rather than due to a lack of demand, the Chinese manufacturer of acoustic components has ceased production of the wireless earbuds. As a result, Luxshare, which we previously stated, is rumored to accept the remaining orders from Apple, earning the supplier a tidy profit and giving them first dibs on subsequent orders.

Just a few days before Kuo’s report, Apple announced that COVID-19 restrictions in China will influence the shipments of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to what we can infer, Goertek is likely having technical issues with the AirPods Pro 2, even though the projection of 20 million shipments for a single quarter for a set of wireless earbuds is still outstanding.

Given that the AirPods Pro 2 can be associated with any computer or device that has Bluetooth connectivity, the potential customer reach is substantially greater. Assuming each pair of AirPods Pro 2 were priced at $249, this would result in a single model earning $4.98 billion in sales.
