Samuel Eto’o lashes out at fan at Brazil vs South Korea game at 2022 World Cup

0

Samuel Eto’o was seen assaulting a fan prior to Brazil’s game against South Korea. The former Cameroon legend was in attendance at the game, and was leaving the stadium when a group of fans approached him for a photo.

One of the fans said something that seemingly angered him, which caused him to lash out. The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation kicked the fan, and caught him in the race and upper chest area. He had to be restrained by those around him to prevent him from acting out further.

The 41-year-old apologised for his behaviour afterwards, and provided an explanation for his actions.

“I would like to apologize for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality. I apologize to the public for this unfortunate incident,” wrote the former Cameroon striker.

“I would like to mention that the scenario of Algeria’s defeat was cruel but perfectly in line with the rules and ethics of our sport,” he added.

“All the appeals made by the Algerian Football Federation to the competent Jurisdictions have been rejected. I, therefore, call on the Algerian authorities and Federation to take responsibility to put an end to this unhealthy climate before a more serious tragedy occurs,” explained Samuel Eto’o.

The game being referenced between Cameroon and Algeria, where the former qualified, was riddled with controversial refereeing decisions. And Eto’o has had to face the heat for being on the winning side, which qualified for the World Cup, ever since.

OnePlus working on a new Mechanical Keyboard set to enter the market next year

0

On Monday, OnePlus product manager Percy T revealed in a forum post that the company is working on a new mechanical keyboard. The device is intended to “offer something fresh” and assist users in becoming “more productive (or better gamers).”

Given OnePlus’ target demographic, which primarily comprises of mobile users and gamers, a mechanical keyboard appears overkill. The business intends to incorporate a variety of customization options, including custom switches. As a result, this impending product is a hot story to monitor during the holiday season.

There isn’t much clear information about the new keyboard right now. On November 17, 2022, the corporation held a “super-secret” Open Ears Forum (OEF) with 10 Core users. According to Percy, it was from there that the concept for a mechanical keyboard arose.

Based on user experience and product insight for office environments, the smartphone designer asked customers which product category they would like the company to expand into. The mechanical keyboard was the clear winner.

OnePlus used a sample bundle including a Switch Sampler Kit and four different material keycaps in the OEF. According to Percy, the company’s early assumptions “remarkably” matched the open-talk outcome.

According to the forum post, the new mechanical keyboard will prioritise work-from-home productivity and lengthy usage hours. The company employed tools to “optimise” the device’s work and gaming experiences.

The OnePlus keyboard seeks to alleviate wrist strain after long hours of use by removing “mess” from users’ desktops. Because it is adjustable, users will be able to select their preferred switches.

The smartphone company also stated that most keyboards are prohibitively pricey, particularly for mechanical keyboard novices. As a result, it wants to introduce the product at a discounted price that might serve as an entry-level choice for both gaming and work.

For its forthcoming device, the smartphone designer is collaborating closely with Keychron, a major keyboard maker. They are working together to create a product that combines durability with “soft-to-the-touch” contact.

The keyboard should ideally be well-suited to all major working requirements. It remains to be seen how this transforms into a real-world product. Percy also stated that they hope to create a product that is “durable” even after extended use.

Intel is set to take 20 of its Angstrom Processors into Risk Production by the first half of 2024

0

The Angstrom era is about to begin, and Intel’s latest roadmap demonstrates that the corporation is working at a ‘torrid pace’ to not only stay on schedule but also to accelerate the delivery timeline. As shrinking silicon battles an avalanche of physical quantum effects, it becomes increasingly difficult to shrink nodes, which is where the post-nanometer era comes into play.

An angstrom, which is a nanometer divided into ten slices, will be the word of choice for process nodes smaller than 2 nm (or 20 Angstroms) and will be the first few processes (likely 18A) to debut with ASML’s high-NA EUV devices. More intriguingly, it appears that Intel is really ahead of schedule.

Intel has released another roadmap that compiles previously available public information and affirmed that its forthcoming 4nm process is manufacturing-ready.

Intel
The latest Intel roadmap shows 18A ready for risk production by 2H 2024, which is ahead of schedule.

It’s worth noting that the procedures where the corporation says the nodes are “manufacturing ready” match the schedule for risk production. This signifies that Intel 4 is currently in risk production. Extrapolating from this, it is possible that Meteor Lake will not be delayed as some reports have suggested, and will instead launch in 2023, rather than 2024, as the business had initially anticipated.

In any case, Intel has also stated that the 18A process (which is expected to be based on ASML’s high-NA EUV lithographic technology) will enter risk production by the second half of 2024. However, the most significant technological leap in the near future will occur with 20A, which will introduce RibbonFET and PowerVias at the same time.

RibbonFET is a gate-all-around or nanosheet transistor architecture that, like FinFETs, should extend the duration of Moore’s Law. This will be integrated with PowerVia backside power delivery, which is overseen by Ann B Kelleher, the company’s General Manager of Technology Development.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU appears to be on par with NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 in Geekbench

0

@BenchLeaks has released performance leaks of AMD’s forthcoming Radeon RX 7900 XTX on Twitter, displaying OpenCL and Vulkan compute results in Geekbench 5. The RDNA3 GPU performed admirably in the Vulkan benchmark, matching the performance of Nvidia’s RTX 4080. The OpenCL numbers aren’t as promising, but Geekbench isn’t the best predictor of real-world gaming performance in general. Nonetheless, it supports AMD’s statements that the RX 7900 XTX will compete effectively with the Nvidia RTX 4080.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX scored 179,579 points in Geekbench 5’s Vulkan benchmark and 228,647 points in OpenCL. This puts the RX 7900 XTX on par with the RTX 4080’s Vulkan score of 178,105 points, which is only 0.8% slower than the 7900 XTX. However, the 7900 XTX behind the RTX 4080 on the OpenCL benchmark, with the RTX 4080 scoring 264,482 points, which is 15.7% higher than the RX 7900 XTX.

The RX 7900 XTX results aren’t surprising, given that AMD’s current GPU architectures have rarely been able to compete with Nvidia’s counterparts in terms of raw computation, which is what OpenCL evaluates.

Gaming workloads, on the other side, have produced competitive results in earlier RX 6000-series models, and we’re seeing the same pattern here. The 7900 XTX’s Vulkan performance features are very appealing when compared to the RTX 4080. AMD has previously stated that the 7900 XTX was not designed to compete with Nvidia’s 4090, but rather with Nvidia’s runner-up RTX 4080 GPU. We don’t know if this was AMD’s intention all along, but the Geekbench 5 Vulkan numbers we’re seeing today clearly support that claim.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT will be available on December 13, which is only one week away. Stay tuned for more information.

Real Madrid leading the race to sign Endrick with €60m package in discussion

0

Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Brazilian wonderkid Endrick. They have plans to complete the pre agreement by the end of the year. Chelsea and PSG are also pushing to sign the youngster, but the Spanish giants are currently ahead of the pair.

They have entertained the youngster’s parents at the Santiago Bernabeu, and have communicated their sporting plans for the future. With Karim Benzema entering his final years, they will need a long-term successor for the centre-forward role.

Endrick to join Real Madrid within the next month?

And a Brazilian front three of Endrick, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo could be the next generation for Los Blancos if the move goes through. A deal worth €60 million is being discussed, which is the release clause amount in his contract.

The Palmeiras youngster has the best goal per 90 ratio in the 2022 Serie A. And he is amongst the most highly rated talents to come out of Brazil.

Barcelona were linked with his signature as well. And Xavi had himself mentioned that he had a conversation with Endrick. But, the Catalonian side are not expected to sign him by the looks of things.

Even if Real Madrid can reach an agreement with the teenager’s entourage and Palmeiras, they won’t be able to register him until he is 18. The international transfer rules require the player to be at least 18 when they leave Brazil. Which means he will only be able to travel to Spain in 2024.

However, even though Madrid are ahead in the race, nothing has been finalised yet. And there is still a considerable amount of work to be done to get the deal over the line.

Portugal 6-1 Switzerland: Goncalo Ramos scores hat-trick in debut start

0

Portugal have advanced to the quarter finals of the World Cup for the first time since 2006, defeating Switzerland 6-1 in their Round of 16 clash.

Fernando Santos dropped Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench for the game, after his reaction to being subbed off against South Korea. And in his place, 21-year-old Goncalo Ramos took to the pitch to lead the line.

Portugal thrash Switzerland 6-1 to reach quarter finals

Ramos opened the scoring with a ferocious strike from a very tight angle. The forward’s shot took Yann Sommer by surprise, as it found its way into the roof of the net for the opener.

And shortly after, Pepe would double their lead from a corner. The centre-back was left unmarked, and charged in to meet the delivery. He buried the ball into the back of the net with a thumping header to become the second oldest goalscorer at a World Cup.

The second half saw Portugal come out without any remorse, as Ramos scored a second only six minutes into the latter period. Raphael Guerreiro smashed the ball into the roof of the net at the 55-minute mark to make it 4.

Manuel Akanji was able to tap the ball in from point-blank range following a corner, getting a consolation for the team. But, there was more to come from the game.

Ramos chipped the ball over the keeper calmly, ten minutes later, to become the first player to score a hat-trick at the 2022 World Cup. It is worth remembering that this was his first ever start for Portugal, and he has been mighty impressive with his opportunity.

Rafael Leao scored an absolute peach from the left side two minutes into additional time to make it 6. The AC Milan forward was subbed on, and scored his second at the World Cup from the bench.

Apple is rushing to move out of China as COVID protocols and riots intensify

Apple is attempting to accelerate its shift away from Chinese manufacture as demonstrations over the country’s strict zero-Covid policies grow and riots disrupt production.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the technological behemoth is stepping up attempts to relocate production to other Asian countries such as India and Vietnam in order to separate itself from Foxconn, one of the company’s key suppliers and the operator of the world’s largest iPhone plant in China.

While the move has been planned for months, insiders told the Journal that recent uprisings at the Zhengzhou facility have pushed Apple to take action.

At November, employees in Zhengzhou’s “iPhone City” erupted in violent protests over withholding pay and strict zero-Covid restrictions, prompting a lockdown. As the protests increased, Foxconn, which employs over 300,000 manufacturing workers, offered them $1,400 to quit and later $1,800 bonuses to stay in order to keep its haemorrhaging workforce.

The protests, which took place at the start of the holiday shopping season in the United States, caused substantial supply chain disruptions and shortages of Apple iPhone items. According to Bloomberg, the company is projected to face a shortage of 6 million iPhone Pros as a result of the protests.

The impact of the turbulence on Apple’s bottom line has created a sense of urgency to diversify production away from China, which has long dominated the company’s manufacturing. However, the Journal claimed that the economic downturn and delayed hiring are making it difficult to outsource production and form partnerships with new suppliers.

According to the Journal, Apple intends to source up to 45% of iPhone production from factories in India, where it presently produces in the single digits, and to increase production of products such as desktops, watches, and AirPods in Vietnam.

Morocco 0-0 Spain (3-0 pens): Exceptional Bono helps seal quarter final spot

0

Morocco have become only the fourth African team to qualify for the quarter finals of the World Cup. They defeated 2010 winners Spain 3-0 on penalties to win their Round of 16 tie as the underdogs.

The two teams could not score even after 120 minutes of intense football, which sent the game to penalties. And a career-defining performance from Bono helped them punch their ticket for the quarter finals by defeating one of the biggest teams in the competition yet again.

Morocco defeat Spain on penalties to go through

Bono kept a clean sheet even after 120 minutes of football, and kept out three successive penalties. As a result, Morocco won the penalty shootout without allowing their opponents a single converted spot-kick.

Pablo Sarabia hit the post, while Sergio Busquets and Carlos Soler were both denied by the goalkeeper. Achraf Hakimi, born in Madrid, scored the decisive penalty to send his country through.

Prior to the tournament, Luis Enrique confirmed that his players were tasked with practising a thousand penalties ahead of the World Cup. But, they were unable to win with the pressure mounted on them. And they have now become the team to lose the most penalty shootouts at the World Cup, with four defeats.

Moreover, this is their third international tournament exit following the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 Euros. Morocco are the first Arab country to have made it this far, and will be expected to put up a huge fight for a spot in the last four, like they did today.
