0

Do you love thin & light laptops a lot? Well, Lenovo has a plethora of them at your disposal but this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is indeed a special one. Though you already might hear the name, the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is a popular model because of its carbon-fibre design that makes it incredibly light yet premium.

Here we have the 12th Gen Intel-powered Yoga Slim 7i Carbon for review that weighs only 0.97kg, yes, it’s very portable because of its weight. The Moon White color design and carbon-fibre body give it a premium look from the moment you unbox it, it’s one of the sleekest and most eye-catchy laptops I’ve ever seen.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

It’s a compact 13-inch form factor laptop with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon could easily be your everyday companion, having spent around two weeks with it, here’s a detailed review about the laptop:

Design & Build Quality

As I told you earlier, this Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is very thin and light, leading to aerospace-grade lightness accompanied by military-grade toughness. Why? Because this laptop is made of aerospace-grade magnesium alloy reinforced with multi-layer carbon Web-Core 2.0 for an incredibly thin, rugged chassis.

So, even though it weighs less than 1kg, its hinge is very sturdy and can be opened with one hand, easy to lift with your fingers, and still doesn’t have any sort of flex. I am really impressed with the build quality and would highly recommend this Yoga Slim 7i Carbon laptop for anyone who is looking for a portable laptop which is very light.

Display

Coming to the display, Lenovo has given you a 13.3-inch 2.5K PureSight display with up to 90Hz refresh rate, though the panel is not OLED still Lenovo promises good color accuracy. Because of the modern 16:10 aspect ratio, and an anti-glare screen, the laptop’s display is very much usable as you get more screen real estate.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

For professionals, Lenovo has used hardware-calibrated Delta E <1 accurate 100% sRGB color space and volume for the display. Also, having the TÜV Rheinland Hardware Low Blue Light certification is very important especially if you forget to wear computer glasses, reducing eye strain if you work for long hours.

Having used the laptop’s display for quite some time now I can easily say it’s one of the best, though lacks that extraordinary contrast which OLED panels bring but apart from that I was quite happy doing my everyday work.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

From watching movies to writing articles or casual YouTube sessions, the display is good enough for almost everything and even professionals can take use of the color accuracy of this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon.

Let’s see this 13.3-inch 2.5K display’s metrics in our DataColor SypderX Pro test and does it live up to Lenovo’s claims:

As you see in our tests, the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon’s display is quite good, covering up to 99% sRGB color gamut but this is not up to MacBook or ZenBook standards these days which cover 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. Though it’s good enough for daily usage professionals who need more color-accurate displays can look for alternatives if this satisfies your needs then it’s fine.

Also, the advertised 400 nits of peak brightness look capped at 369 nits, still quite a descent, the high resolution makes the thing look sharp but due to lack of good contrast makes things shabby sometimes. However, if you omit hi-fi productive work, for media consumption the display is very good, with both Dolby Atmos & Vision support, you do enjoy watching movies or YouTube as well.

We told you everything about this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon display but you should decide if the display will suit your needs or not.

Performance

Lenovo has kept its partnership with Intel intact and though powered by the older 12-core 12th Gen Core i7-1260P processor, the laptop is quite powerful for everyday needs. This is paired with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and PCIe Gen4 SSD support, you get a blazing-fast Windows experience and everyday work is done in a jiffy.

However, sometimes in power saving mode or when too many tabs are open in Chrome there is a lag in performance, now when you do high-end workloads, the laptop gets heated up pretty quickly. So, heavy rendering or hours of high-end work is not the best I would say, anyways better on a dedicated work desktop or a MacBook.

To see its productivity performance, here are some benchmarks for your reference:

As you see in the benchmarks, this Core i7-1260P processor is a powerful chip but cannot deliver a sustained performance because of the weak thermals. In single-core, though you will see a good score in multi-core, the laptop struggles a lot and even the older Yoga Slim 7 Carbon with Ryzen 7 5800U we reviewed gives better performance than this one.

Screenshot 746 Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

As you see during prolonged benchmarking, the CPU temperature goes up to 91 degrees Celsius which is again a weak point of this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon. We feel, the performance of this notebook isn’t bad but the thermals could have been better to properly utilize the chipset inside the laptop and the lack of discrete GPU also doesn’t do justice if you want to do heavy graphics intensive workload.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

In terms of SSD speed, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon really excels and posts flagship Gen4 speeds of up to 6505MB/s read and 4874MB/s write speeds. This kind of speed is excellent for a laptop you plan to use in the long run and overall for most people this laptop should be enough but not for high-end users.

Even though at Performance mode, you still feel the thermals are doing good to push the performance, however, it cannot sustain much of the peak performance. If you are a business-oriented person and need a reliable medium-usage laptop for everyday purpose then the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon makes sense or even people like me who uses a laptop for writing mainly makes real sense. However, don’t think of comparing this one with MacBook Pros and keep your performance expectations a bit real.

Connectivity & I/O

Lenovo has kept things simple with the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon and the ThunderBolt 4 port here on the left-hand side is responsible for both charging and transfers. On the right-hand side, you have a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port which again is a Type-C anyways so you have to carry a dongle to connect hard drives, etc.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

In terms of connectivity, the Wi-Fi 6E support is excellent, and the broader coverage does help when you take the laptop outdoors still in search of better connectivity. My plan speeds are capped at 150MB/s and as you see there is no loss of speed, I am getting very low latency as well, also the upload speeds are very accurate.

Also, Bluetooth 5.1 does help you to connect to multiple devices easily and I have been using my dedicated mouse or headphones or speaker and faced no issues at all.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

Keyboard & Trackpad

The white theme obviously compliments the laptop pretty well, the keyboard area has been stretched so that the keys remain standard. The edge-to-edge backlit keyboard serves the purpose for me as they are quite comfortable to type on, not the clickiest but has decent key travel for daily usage.

In terms of the trackpad, Lenovo has stuffed in a larger trackpad which again is usable not that I used it very often but when my mouse wasn’t around, I could use the trackpad as an alternative.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

Audio & Webcam

Lenovo has never compromised on the audio department, and here you also have 2x2W Harman speakers with Dolby Atmos support which is loud & accurate enough. I did play music a lot and the sound quality is quite decent, it is not as loud as MacBooks or ZenBooks but still, it’s very usable.

For the webcam, this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon sports a 720p HD webcam, again very simple but comes with a privacy shutter and also an IR sensor for Windows Hello face recognition. Though the webcam quality is average, Windows Hello support is very convenient if you are too lazy to give a pin during every unlock.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

Battery life

Coming to battery life, though there are big claims around this Yoga Slim 7i Carbon to last up to 10 hours, however, being an Intel-powered one, the battery life is a bit slender. As per my usage with 60% brightness and at silent mode, the laptop lasts up to 6.30 hours in some cases but on average last around 5.30 hours.

So, for typical usage, the numbers are quite good but can be stretched if you are casual binge watching and to be fair these numbers are decent enough but not close to the MacBooks anywhere.

Verdict

Now, should you buy this Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon laptop powered by 12th Gen Intel processors or not? Well, if you need an ultra-thin & light notebook which you will use for basic to mid-range usage, need decent battery life and want to carry & use it anywhere this Lenovo laptop solves your purpose quite easily.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon review: Your everyday companion

Obviously, things aren’t cheap these days, and neither this laptop is, costing around $999.99 and is in the MacBook Air zone. Well, for a Windows laptop I have no complaints as such and being an elegant, thin & light laptop, it served me quite well for a few days, however, it cannot handle a sustained load.

Even the newer MacBook Air struggles with a heavy load but has great battery life, however, if you are inclined towards Windows laptops, and love features like Windows Hello or seamless integration to Microsoft you can go for this Yoga Slim 7i Carbon else go for MacBook if you don’t mind macOS. I hope Lenovo improve the thermals and performance while still being light on the 2023 variants which will head into the market pretty soon.

The Strange Case of Julian Araujo: Young American star left out of Barcelona due to Spanish football’s strict transfer rules

The football world was taken by surprise recently with the strange situation involving young American defender Julian Araujo and Spanish giants Barcelona. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, many are wondering what the future holds for the talented player.

So what exactly happened, and why was Julian Araujo left out of the squad for the Copa del Rey final?

To understand the situation, let’s take a look at the transfer rules. According to FIFA regulations, the transfer window is the period during which a club can transfer players from one country to another. The transfer window opens on January 1st and closes on January 31st, with the deadline for registering new players being 11 pm on the last day of the window

Well, it turns out that the situation was due to a technicality involving the transfer deadline. According to Spanish football rules, a player who is registered with a club after the transfer deadline is not eligible to play in official matches for the rest of the season.

Now, let’s get back to Julian Araujo. The American defender has been making waves in the MLS with LA Galaxy, and his impressive performances have caught the eye of Barcelona. Araujo was registered with Barcelona after the transfer deadline, and as a result, he was not eligible officially sign for the Catalans. This strange situation highlights the strict transfer rules in Spanish football, and how even a talented player like Araujo can be affected by them. This has led to a lot of speculation on social media, with fans and experts alike weighing in on the situation.

Fans and experts took to social media to express their disappointment and confusion regarding the situation:

The situation involving Julian Araujo and Barcelona is a strange one, but it highlights the strict transfer rules in Spanish football and the impact they can have on young talent. Will he join Barcelona and take the next step in his career, or will the transfer window close with him still at LA Galaxy? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the football world will be watching.

Top 10 most expensive transfers of January 2023

To nobody’s surprise, all of the most expensive transfers of January 2023 have been to the Premier League. And in this post, we will be taking a look at the top ten most expensive signings of the month gone by.

Top 10 most expensive transfers of January 2023

10. Danilo: Palmeiras to Nottingham Forest – £17.8m

One of the most expensive transfers of January 2023 comes from relegation-battling Nottingham Forest, who has signed Danilo on a 6.5-year contract.

9. Andrey Santos: Vasco Da Gama to Chelsea – £18m

The young Brazilian is proving to be a bargain, scoring five goals in as many games for Brazil in the U-20 South American Championships. As a result, he could be in line for a promotion to the first team very soon.

8. Dango Ouattara: Lorient to Bournemouth – £20m

Ouattara is a signing that might have flown under the radar. But, the Burkina Faso forward has signed on a £20 million deal, having scored six goals in 18 Ligue 1 games this season.

7. Leandro Trossard: Brighton to Arsenal – £21m

£21 million for one of Brighton’s top players seems like a steak, especially considering the start he has made for Arsenal. After missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk, Trossard could be a crazy signing who is just hitting his peak years.

6. Georginio Rutter: Hoffenheim to Leeds – £24.8m

Rutter is Leeds United’s most expensive signing of all time and will be expected to help them out with their goalscoring woes. He has scored 11 goals in 61 Bundesliga games, and fans will be hoping for a better return from him in England.

5. Noni Madueke: PSV Eindhoven to Chelsea – £30.7m

Madueke signed for Chelsea after coming through the Tottenham academy, and was one of their eight new arrivals. A skilful and fast winger, he has the ability to take on his man and go for goal – which is exactly what Chelsea need right now.

4. Benoit Badiashile: Monaco to Chelsea – £34m

The France international has been a relatively quiet signing, but has been performing exceptionally well. He has been the left-sided central defender that was needed, and what a signing he is proving to be so far.

3. Cody Gakpo: PSV to Liverpool – £37.2m

Manchester United were expected to land Gakpo in January… until Liverpool came in and finalised the transfer. Gakpo has struggled to deliver so far under Jurgen Klopp. But, he is a remarkable talent and it seems only a matter of time before things start to fall into place for him.

2. Mykhaylo Mudryk: Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea – £62m + £26.5 add-ons

Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal seemed like a done deal until he was holding up a Chelsea shirt as one of the most expensive transfers of January 2023 until deadline day. The West London club reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for a massive fee, and have signed the winger on an eight-and-a-half-year deal.

1. Enzo Fernandez: Benfica to Chelsea- £106.8m

Chelsea’s persistence helped them land the 2022 World Cup’s young player of the tournament on a British record fee, placing him atop the most expensive transfers of January 2023. Enzo Fernandez left Benfica after only six months and is expected to play a huge part in the Blues’ project going ahead.

Hogwarts Legacy: Here’s what we know everything about the Game

0

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, before the Harry Potter books and films, and during the tenure of Phineas Nigellus Black as Headmaster of Hogwarts. Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Narcissa Malfoy are all descended from Phineas. Readers of the book may recall that Phineas’s portrait at Hogwarts would leak information about Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Snape. Phineas is played by Simon Pegg, and he is notable for not caring about the position of headmaster, but rather accepting it for the prestige.

Warner Bros. Games has announced the platforms for Hogwarts Legacy as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. On August 24, 2022, the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition was released. The limited edition bundle includes everything from the Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition, including 72 hours of early access and the Dark Arts Pack, as well as a slew of other exclusive content. You’ll receive an Onyx Hippogriff Mount, a Kelpie Robe to outfit your character, a steel case to keep the game in, and a life-size floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book Base.

The setting of Hogwarts Legacy extends beyond the grounds of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Because Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world experience, we’ll be able to visit nearby locations like the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village – as well as some entirely new locations that Warner Bros. Games has yet to reveal. Naturally, the fully-realized Hogwarts Castle is the main draw, especially since we’ll be able to attend classes, develop our magical abilities, brew potions, tame magical beasts, explore Hogwarts’ hidden dungeons and secret passageways, and participate in challenging puzzles scattered throughout the school.

From what we’ve seen of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay, it’s clear that developer Avalanche Software is constructing a sprawling action-RPG set in the larger Harry Potter universe. You’ll be able to create your own character, assign them to a house, and then role-play as a Hogwarts student. In classes, you will learn new magical abilities and how to brew potions, and out in the world, you will face off against creatures and dark powers in wand-to-wand combat, levelling up your skills and equipment as you gain new experience.

The Hogwarts Legacy release date is set for February 10, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There will be a 72-hour early access period beginning on February 7, 2023 for pre-order customers.

Everton 1-0 Arsenal: Sean Dyche era off to unbelievable start at Goodison Park

0

Everton have put an end to Arsenal’s impressive run by defeating them 1-0 at Goodison Park. Sean Dyche’s first game in charge of the Toffees saw them overcome the Premier League leaders and blow the title race wide open.

Mikel Arteta has become the first Arsenal manager to lose three of his first away games at Everton. And their run of 14 unbeaten games has finally come to an end against a resolute performance from the Merseyside club.

Everton hand Arsenal shocking loss to blow title race wide open

James Tarkowski scored the only goal of the game, combining with his former Burnley teammate Dwight McNeil to help Dyche pick up a huge win.

The game was a very tight affair with few opportunities, and Arsenal struggled to come up with their free flowing best. They were unable to take the opportunities that were presented to them, and it ended up costing them dearly.

Amadou Onana, in particular, was the driving force behind Everton’s win. He was tireless in midfield and didn’t allow the opposition a moment’s rest on the ball.

Everton have had a very poor season so far, and they were running the risk of being sent down to the Championship for the first time since 1954. But with the arrival of Sean Dyche, the fans have something to be hopeful for as they might just escape by the skin of their teeth again.

For Arsenal, the title race is back on. If Manchester City can win against Tottenham, the points gap between them will be reduced to two. And this could ramp up the stakes even higher when the two teams meet on February 16.

FC Barcelona to consider short sponsorships to deal with FFP crisis

0

Barcelona are considering new sponsors to add to their existing line-up, in hopes of dealing with their financial woes. Having used up their economic levers this past summer, the club will not be allowed a repeat of the strategy.

As a result, they are looking at other ways of generating money in order to cope with their debt. According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are in talks over adding a sponsor to their shorts which could help add more revenue to their books.

Barcelona exploring unprecedented shorts sponsorship deals

Currently, they are in talks with Philips as their new sleeve sponsor to generate €2-3 million for the remainder of the season. And from 23/24, it could go up to around €8-9 million.

Other Spanish teams like Mallorca and Espanyol are already taking advantage of shorts sponsors. And if they can strike a deal, Barcelona will be the next to arrange such a sponsorship.

If it does indeed go through, the logo will be visible on the rear side of the shorts. The deal could generate a sum worth €5 million, which would help Barcelona with their Financial Fair Play struggles and make things easier.

The club has already been denied significant revenue after being dumped out of the Champions League in the group stage. But, having won the Supercopa de Espana and being at the top of La Liga right now, they might be able to generate a good amount of performance-based revenue at the end of the season if they can win the league and the other trophies they are still competing for.

Wolves 3-0 Liverpool: Winless 2023 continues for Jurgen Klopp’s men

0

Liverpool were handed yet another 3-0 loss by Wolves in the Premier League, extending their search for a win in 2023 to another game. The Reds were outplayed by a relegation threatened team yet again, and they suffered a three-goal defeat once more.

They started the game very slow, and paid heavily for it with Joel Matip turning the ball into his own net within the first five minutes. Craig Dawson scored his first goal for Wolves shortly after, scoring off the rebound from a free-kick situation.

Liverpool thrashed by Wolves as miserable run continues

Ruben Neves added the third goal to complete a brilliant performance in the middle of the park by converting Adama Traore’s cutback to the midfielder.

Liverpool were able to have more of the ball, but were not able to make much of it during the game. Their once-impressive gegenpressing system has been absent this season, and they have allowed opposition teams way too much time to express themselves on the ball.

The injury to Virgil Van Dijk, and the lack of quality in midfield have been some of the main reasons behind their downfall. And in 2023 alone, they have been handed 3-goal defeats by Brentford, Brighton and now, Wolves.

At the end of the day, it was quite visible that Wolves wanted the win more badly than their opponents did. And Julen Lopetegu’s change to a 4-4-2 helped them expose Liverpool’s defence and capitalise on their mistakes.

Noah Okafor to leave RB Salzburg in June 2023 for bigger challenge

0

Erling Haaland, Patson Daka, Karim Adeyemi, Benjamin Sesko, and now… Noah Okafor. The 22-year-old is the latest centre-forward from RB Salzburg that is attracting interest from some of the top clubs in Europe – including from England and Germany.

There was interest from several clubs during the January transfer window over a move. However, him and his representatives decided to stay in Austria until the end of the season and then work towards a big move and start the season afresh.

Noah Okafor to leave RB Salzburg at the end of the season

The Swiss international has a contact with Salzburg until 2024, and with one year left, the club will cash in on him. He has earned 12 caps for the Swiss national team so far, and has scored two goals. He made his debut for Switzerland in 2019, and went on to feature for them in the 2022 Qatar World Cup as well.

This season, Noah Okafor has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 23 games across all competitions. As a result, he is showing that he has a decent end product and that he can score the goals when needed.

Okafor came through the Basel academy in Switzerland, before making the move to Austria in January 2020 for €11 million. After spending three-and-a-half years with them, he is expected to move on to a bigger challenge when the summer window opens.
