Dota 2 Still Dominates the Record Books

Valve’s crowdfunded Battle Pass model, introduced in 2013, let Dota 2’s The International shatter prize pool records for nearly a decade, occupying seven of the top 10 spots ever recorded. Epic Games briefly challenged that dominance by funding Fortnite’s 2019 World Cup directly out of pocket. More recently, Saudi-backed events like the Esports World Cup have injected massive new money into the scene, spreading huge prize pools across multiple games rather than concentrating them in one tournament.
