Every Bollywood fan has been wondering the same thing since the Bhooth Bangla teaser dropped. Is it a sequel? Is Priyadarshan trying to ride the Bhool Bhulaiyaa wave? Well, the director himself has now answered — and the truth is more interesting than the rumor.
Priyadarshan Draws a Clear Line Between the Two Films
In an exclusive interview, director Priyadarshan firmly denied that his upcoming Bhooth Bangla is any kind of sequel to the 2007 cult classic Bhool Bhulaiyaa. He made it crystal clear: “I don’t want to take any credit of it. This has nothing to do with Bhool Bhulaiyaa.”
The veteran director’s core argument? The two films belong to entirely different genres. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a psychological thriller rooted in suspense, Bhooth Bangla is a fantasy horror comedy — one that taps into India’s deep-seated belief in ghosts and age-old superstitions.
| Feature | Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) | Bhooth Bangla (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Genre | Psychological Thriller | Fantasy Horror Comedy |
| Theme | Mental illness & deception | Superstitions & ghost beliefs |
| Tone | Dark & suspenseful | Entertaining & fantastical |
| Release | 2007 | April 10, 2026 |
Why the Song Ram Ji Bhala Karenge Feels Familiar
Priyadarshan acknowledged that the song does intentionally echo the vibe of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, but only the horror-comedy elements overlap — not the story, characters, or soul of the films. Think of it as a loving nod, not a continuation.

Akshay Kumar Is Priyadarshan’s Lucky Charm — Here’s Why
The director has a special place for Akshay Kumar, calling him “lucky.” Their collaboration history speaks for itself, spanning memorable comedy entertainers like Hungama and Hulchul. Priyadarshan praised Akshay’s rare versatility — an actor equally at ease delivering punchlines or carrying serious dramatic weight.
Bhooth Bangla reunites the iconic duo alongside Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, and Wamiqa Gabbi — a dream ensemble for fans of classic Bollywood comedy-horror. According to Wikipedia, the comedy-horror genre blends scares with laughs, a formula Priyadarshan has long mastered.
What to Expect from Bhooth Bangla
Priyadarshan’s biggest concern? Unrealistic expectations. “Every film is different and you can’t compare,” he said plainly. Bhooth Bangla leans into India’s cultural fabric — rituals, superstitions, and the very real fear of the supernatural that millions of Indians carry. It’s not trying to be Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3; it’s trying to be something entirely its own.
The film hits theatres on April 10, 2026.
