Between Steps Teaser: Choo Young Woo and Kim So Hyun’s Fragile Romance Begins to Crack

Some love stories start with hesitation and end with heartbreak — and the new teaser for ENA’s “Between Steps” makes that trajectory painfully clear. The drama, one of the final projects from acclaimed director Ahn Pan-seok before his passing earlier this year, is already stirring emotion before its October premiere.

Known for helming beloved melodramas like “Something in the Rain” and “One Spring Night,” Ahn Pan-seok’s involvement gives “Between Steps” extra emotional weight. The drama tells the story of Park Min Jae (Choo Young Woo), a former swimmer who lost his right leg to illness, and Im Yoo Jin (Kim So Hyun), a graduate student searching for direction after losing her way in life.

What ‘Between Steps’ Teaser Reveals?

The newly released teaser opens with a tender, nervous moment between the two leads as their emotional distance begins to close, hinting at a hesitant but genuine connection forming. Their earlier unexpected encounter is shown with quiet excitement, capturing that delicate, early-relationship spark.

But the tone shifts quickly. A particularly striking moment shows Park Min Jae struggling with his prosthetic leg, visibly uncomfortable and emotionally guarded. He soon signals that he doesn’t see the relationship working, effectively pulling away — a moment that leaves Im Yoo Jin devastated and questioning why he won’t fight to stay together.

Why This Story Resonates?

At its core, “Between Steps” seems to explore how personal insecurity and self-worth can sabotage love even when genuine feelings exist. Park Min Jae’s internal conflict — feeling unworthy of connection due to his disability — adds a layer of emotional realism that fits perfectly with Ahn Pan-seok’s signature style of grounded, character-driven storytelling.

Given the director’s history of crafting deeply human romances, “Between Steps” looks poised to deliver another emotionally resonant melodrama, made even more poignant knowing it’s among his final works.

“Between Steps” premieres October 5 at 10 p.m. KST.
