Players control Emma, an 18-year-old outcast marked as blightborn who gained the ability to manipulate plants and her hair after corruption. She travels alongside Koo, a Malefact dog that retained its soul, hunting powerful bosses called Nushi while confronting the Beast of Reincarnation—the Blight’s source consuming the world.

Unique Combat System Blends Action and Commands

The gameplay trailer revealed Beast of Reincarnation’s distinctive combat mechanics combining real-time action with turn-based RPG elements. Emma fights using sword-based actions including dodging, parrying, and air combos, while Koo battles through command-based skills.

When Emma performs successful parries against enemy attacks, she earns points to activate Koo’s abilities. Players access Koo’s command menu anytime by pressing Triangle, which slows down time for strategic skill selection. This seamless switching between action and commands maintains Koo’s constant presence beside Emma.

Director Kota Furushima emphasized accessibility in a Famitsu interview: “We’re trying to make it so that even people who aren’t good at action games can enjoy it.” This design philosophy differentiates Beast of Reincarnation from Souls-like difficulty, despite surface similarities to third-person action-adventure games.

The Blight’s influence causes environments to shift suddenly during exploration. Plains and wastelands gradually transform into forests as part of the world’s natural cycle, creating real-time changes affecting navigation and combat encounters.
