Barca sporting director Mateu Alemany to leave on September 2 with Deco as replacement

Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany is set to leave the club on September 2. He was close to joining Aston Villa this summer, but performed a U-turn after Barcelona released an official statement confirming his departure.

Alemany’s replacement has been confirmed by Barcelona in Deco, their former player. Deco has already started in his role as the sporting director of the club and has announced that he has shut down his agency. He managed Barca winger Raphinha, and brokered his transfer from Leeds United.

Alemany was expected to stay at the club until the end of the transfer window, and his departure date has now been confirmed by the club. There is a chance that he could end up at Tottenham, with the London club currently without a director.

Fabio Paratici had to resign from his post after he was banned due to wrongdoing during his time at Juventus. Paratici needs to spend at least two years away from football and he stepped down from his post as a result.

Contacts with Spurs are yet to be formalised, but the chances are solid for him to make the move to the Premier League at last.

Deco has signed a three-year contract with Barcelona and will be with them for the foreseeable future. The club has signed Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu and Vitor Roque this summer, while offloading Ousmane Dembele.
