What Is I Swear About?

Directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee), the film tells the true story of John Davidson, a Scottish man who became a national advocate after being featured in the 1989 documentary John’s Not Mad. The film traces his life navigating Tourette’s syndrome — a condition widely misunderstood at the time — and his inspiring journey from social isolation to becoming a leading campaigner and public voice.

It’s not just a medical story. It’s a deeply human one about dignity, resilience, and finding your place in a world that wasn’t built for you.

Robert Aramayo, best known for The Rings of Power, delivers what critics are calling a transformative, career-best performance. He also took home the British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for the role — cementing I Swear as one of the most important British films in years.
