Avengers: Doomsday Merch Confirms Captain America and Bucky Barnes Are on Separate Teams

Turns out a simple sticker set might reveal more about Avengers: Doomsday than the trailers have. New promotional merchandise is confirming what fans suspected — Sam Wilson’s Captain America and Bucky Barnes aren’t fighting side-by-side this time, and the reason traces back to Thunderbolts.

What the Merch Reveals

A set of promotional stickers shared online highlights key Doomsday heroes, including Doctor Doom, The Thing, Black Widow, and Black Panther, alongside several paired-hero designs like Ant-Man with Invisible Woman and Shang-Chi with Cyclops. One sticker places Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes together but marks them with separate Avengers logos, subtly confirming they now belong to two distinct Avengers factions rather than one unified team.

Avengers: Doomsday- Overview

How Sam and Bucky Ended Up on Different Teams

Sam and Bucky were close allies after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Sam stepping into the Captain America mantle while Bucky pursued a political career. That changed during Thunderbolts*, when Bucky got pulled into a mission involving Valentina Allegra de Fontaine that spiraled into a citywide crisis, ultimately resulting in his team being rebranded as the New Avengers. Bucky himself admitted in the film’s post-credits scene that his last conversation with Sam didn’t end well, leaving their friendship strained heading into Doomsday. A trailer shot showing Bucky alongside Scott Lang as Steve Rogers reportedly reappears hints their reunion — and possible reconciliation — could be central to the film.
