Athiradi OTT Release — Overview

When and Where to Watch Athiradi Online

Athiradi will stream on SonyLIV from June 19, 2026. The official announcement was shared by the platform on its social media handles with the caption, “The rivalry you didn’t know you needed! Biggest entertainment fest of the season.” — and honestly, that sums it up perfectly. Mark your calendars, set a reminder, and plan your watch party.

What Is Athiradi About?

At its core, Athiradi is a classic tale of ego, rivalry, and chaos — wrapped in a thoroughly entertaining Gen Z package. The story centres on Samkutty, or “Sam Boy,” a civil engineering student who is hopelessly in love and bursting with energy. He takes it upon himself to revive his college’s legendary “Arohan” fest, which had been banned by the management after a tragic stampede years earlier.

But standing squarely in his way is Sreekuttan — a former goon turned musician who was directly responsible for getting the original fest shut down. As tensions between the two escalate, Sreekuttan reverts to his older, more dangerous persona, “Thotta” Kuttan, determined to bring the whole revival crashing down. What follows is a high-energy clash of wills, egos, and some genuinely fun chaos. Malayalam cinema has a proud tradition of such crowd-pleasing entertainers, a genre that has grown enormously in global reach — something Wikipedia’s overview of Malayalam cinema traces in rich detail.

Cast and Crew of Athiradi

The film brings together a fantastic ensemble headlined by Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph — the same duo that gave us Minnal Murali, so expectations were naturally sky-high. Alongside them are Riya Shibu, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Zarin Shihab, Shaan Rahman, Vishnu Agasthya, and several others in key roles.

There are also cameo appearances by Hashir H., Darshana Rajendran, and Devan — and in a sweet touch, Tovino’s own son Tahaan Tovino makes a special appearance too.

Behind the camera, debutant director Arun Anirudhan co-wrote the script alongside Paulson Skaria. Basil Joseph himself co-produced the film under Basil Joseph Entertainment, with Ananthu S. as co-producer. Vishnu Vijay handled the music, Samuel Henry took charge of cinematography, and Chamman Chacko edited the film.

Is Athiradi Worth Watching?

If you enjoy fast-paced, comedy-driven Malayalam cinema with two genuinely charismatic leads bouncing off each other, Athiradi is an easy yes. Critics described it as a fun, one-time entertainer — the kind of film you switch off your brain for and just enjoy. It’s also a great watch for anyone who wants to see what happens when a director, an actor-producer, and a superstar all decide to just have a really good time making a movie.
