Athiradi Box Office: Tovino Thomas & Basil Joseph’s Unstoppable Action Comedy Storms Past Rs. 20 Crore in Just 4 Days!

Malayalam cinema is having quite the moment right now, and Athiradi is right at the centre of it. The Basil Joseph–directed, Tovino Thomas–led action comedy entertainer has taken Kerala audiences by storm, and the numbers at the box office are doing all the talking.

Athiradi Opening Weekend — Day-by-Day Collections at a Glance

A Sunday Jump That Says It All

Athiradi collected Rs. 5.25 crore on its first Sunday, registering a jump of 10 per cent over the previous day — making it the film’s second-best single-day collection after its opening day of Rs. 5.40 crore. The movie wrapped its opening weekend at Rs. 20.25 crore gross at the Kerala box office.

That kind of Sunday hold for a Malayalam film is genuinely impressive. A jump on Day 4 instead of a drop signals strong word-of-mouth doing the heavy lifting — exactly the kind of momentum every filmmaker dreams of.

What Is Athiradi Actually About?

Athiradi follows the story of Samkutty, an enthusiastic and overzealous college student who falls in love with his classmate. Over time, he gains popularity among his peers and decides to revive a long-banned festival at his college. However, the festival was banned years ago due to the involvement of Sreekuttan Vellayani, a local goon and aspiring singer. As news of the festival spreads, the two become involved in a fiery feud that can only end in a full-blown brawl.

It’s the kind of fun, high-energy campus setup that Kerala audiences have always loved — and clearly, it’s landing just right.

Can Athiradi Cross Rs. 30 Crore in Week One?

The action comedy entertainer is expected to hold well on the weekdays too, with the potential of ending its first week around the Rs. 30 crore mark — before facing a giant Drishyam 3 in cinemas.

Malayalam cinema has a long and celebrated history of producing mid-budget crowd-pleasers that punch well above their weight at the box office, and Athiradi is shaping up to be a worthy addition to that tradition.

The movie met with a positive reception among the audience, which is the biggest plus for its success. If the movie had a clean run of a couple of weeks, it would have become a new sensation in Kerala. The arrival of Drishyam 3 will be the real test of just how resilient Athiradi’s audience pull can be.
