Asus announced an all-new, 240 Hz 1440p ROG gaming monitor with OLED display panel technology in a Twitter tweet by ROG Global. The monitor is dubbed the PG27AQDM, and it will be Asus’ first OLED gaming monitor with a 27-inch panel. The display will be completely shown at CES 2023, where we can expect precise specifications, first impressions, and ideally the monitor’s pricing – which will almost certainly be quite high.

The sneak peek shows the monitor’s design language, which includes the same red and grey ROG theme as other ROG displays, as well as the same triple-legged stand. What distinguishes the monitor is the razor-thin shroud that surrounds the display’s outside edges. This is a feature of OLED’s self-illuminating technology, which requires less total depth from the monitor to function than other display technologies and gives the screen a futuristic appearance.

The PG27AQDM is the smallest 27-inch OLED display we’ve seen from Asus to date.

This alone will be a significant feature for most gamers, as Asus’ prior OLED implementations were only available in huge format panels measuring more than 40 inches. The 27-inch form factor is ideal for customers who sit at standard monitor viewing distances yet want all of the benefits that OLED has to offer. The majority of the greatest gaming monitors are either 27 or 32 inches in size.

With a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 1440p (2560 x 1440) display, Asus is obviously targeting hardcore gamers looking for the most responsive panel available. OLED technology is naturally superior in this area, providing not only superior colours and brightness for more accurate detection of threats, but also industry-leading response speeds.
