Asur Season 3 — 2 iconic returning leads, 1 major new cast addition, 30 million views earned by Season 2 in just 21 days, and India’s biggest-ever streaming debut at the time — is heading to production in September 2026, with Shweta Basu Prasad officially joining Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti as creator Gaurav Shukla steps up to direct for the first time.
The Announcement — Script Locked, Cameras Ready
Asur, one of the most highly successful and engaging psychological thrillers created by Gaurav Shukla, is set to go on floors in September, with the makers gearing up to take the story forward with a new chapter.

The scripting is locked and the team is preparing to begin shooting in September. Shweta Basu Prasad is joining the cast, and Gaurav Shukla will take over the director’s chair this season.
The upcoming instalment of the acclaimed franchise will be available for streaming on the JioHotstar platform.
The Returning Leads — Dhananjay and Nikhil Are Back
Lead actors Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti will reprise their popular roles as Dhananjay Rajpoot and Nikhil Nair.
It goes without saying that the 3rd part of the web series will once again be led by Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti, who have been at the heart of the show since the 1st season.
Earlier, in an interview with Mid-Day, Arshad said that Asur 3 was his next project. “I am yet to read the script, but verbally we know that it’s happening,” he said.
The New Addition — Shweta Basu Prasad
Actress Shweta Basu Prasad has officially joined the ensemble cast, though details of her character remain under wraps.

She is expected to add a new dimension to the show. The cast is still being finalised, and Asur fans can expect several exciting updates in the days to come.
Behind the Camera — Gaurav Shukla’s Directorial Debut
Another major change behind the camera is that writer and creator Gaurav Shukla, who has been closely associated with Asur, will make his directorial debut with Season 3. The previous 2 seasons were directed by Oni Sen, with Shukla serving as the writer and creator.
Gaurav Shukla will also don the producer’s hat this time.
Asur was created by Gaurav Shukla and Vibhav Shikdar. Season 3 marks the first time Shukla will stand behind the camera in an official directorial capacity — a full-circle moment for a man who built the entire universe from scratch.
The Asur Universe — Season by Season
The 1st season was released in 2020, followed by the 2nd season in 2023. Both seasons received appreciation from critics and audiences. Asur Season 1 was released on Voot, and the 2nd season streamed on JioCinema.

Created by Gaurav Shukla, Asur has built a strong following through its combination of crime investigation, forensic science, mythology and psychological suspense.

The Bigger Picture
Asur Season 3 arrives with 3 things no Indian OTT thriller franchise has had simultaneously in recent memory — a returning duo in Warsi and Sobti who are inseparable from their roles, a creator-turned-director in Shukla who knows every corner of this universe, and a new face in Shweta Basu Prasad whose 24-year career — from National Award at age 11 to acclaimed OTT performances — guarantees she is no mere supporting addition.

The 3rd season is expected to continue the show’s dark storytelling while introducing new characters and another layer of mystery. With 30 million views in 21 days setting the benchmark from Season 2, the pressure on Season 3 is immense — but the creative machinery being assembled suggests that Asur’s darkest and most ambitious chapter may still be ahead.
