The hidden blade is being sharpened! Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series is assembling its cast for an epic journey through Ancient Rome during Nero’s reign. Assassin’s Creed Series: Essential Details

Meet the Assassin’s Creed Cast

Toby Wallace leads the series as a co-lead and series regular. Known for his work in Netflix’s The Society and HBO’s upcoming Euphoria Season 3, Wallace brings intensity and depth to this mysterious role set in Ancient Rome’s deadly political landscape.

Lola Petticrew joins as a series regular. The talented actor from Bloodlands and Say Nothing makes their Netflix debut in this ambitious video game adaptation, though character details remain classified—much like the Assassin Brotherhood itself.

Zachary Hart adds Netflix credentials to the cast, having previously appeared in Peaky Blinders and The Witcher: Blood Origin. His experience with period dramas in Slow Horses and Masters of the Air makes him perfect for Ancient Rome’s intrigue.

Laura Marcus brings her Andor experience and will soon appear in the Hunger Games prequel Sunrise of the Reaping. Her role remains under wraps, but her track record with epic franchises is impressive.

Tanzyn Crawford rounds out the confirmed cast. After starring in Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things and with an upcoming role in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Crawford demonstrates the series’ commitment to assembling top-tier talent.

Ancient Rome Meets Assassin’s Creed Lore

Set between 54-68 AD during Emperor Nero’s early reign, the series explores uncharted territory for the franchise. The story centers on a mysterious assassin investigating conspiracy theories connecting Nero’s ascent, philosopher Seneca’s influence, and a hidden order pulling strings from the shadows of imperial Rome.

This era offers perfect material for Assassin’s Creed’s signature blend of historical fiction and conspiracy. Nero’s infamous tyranny, the burning of Rome, and ancient political machinations create an ideal backdrop for parkour, hidden blades, and shadowy organizations.

Why Italy? A Love Letter to Fans

Filming in Rome pays homage to the franchise’s most beloved character, Ezio Auditore, whose Renaissance Italian adventures in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood defined the series. While this story predates Ezio by 1,400 years, shooting in Italy’s capital connects past and present, honoring longtime fans while exploring fresh historical ground.

The production team includes Westworld veteran Roberto Patino and Homecoming creator David Wiener as showrunners, ensuring the series balances spectacle with sophisticated storytelling. Ubisoft Film & Television maintains creative oversight, protecting the franchise’s authenticity.

From Animus to Screen

The Assassin’s Creed games revolutionized historical action with their premise: modern-day characters use the “Animus” device to relive ancestral memories, experiencing history firsthand while uncovering ancient conspiracies. The series promises to explore this concept while focusing on the eternal conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood (fighting for free will) and the Templar Order (seeking control over humanity).

With production scheduled for early 2026 in Italy, fans can expect a late 2026 or 2027 release date. The series represents Netflix’s continued investment in premium video game adaptations following successes like The Witcher and Arcane.

Nothing is true, everything is permitted—and soon, everything will be revealed.
